560ah 12v Bank for Sprinter RV

I also used 2/0 and it is good for a 300 amp fuse. HaldorEE is right that the fuse protects the wiring. I sized the wiring and fuse to accommodate the maximum possible draw from the inverter. My old 200ah AGM bank had a 300A MRBF fuse which I replaced when going with the lithiums.

560ah 12v Bank for Sprinter RV

If you look at the pics the cells are clamped in place with threaded angle brackets and bolts pressing on a steel plate. I didn't have room to put threaded rods on either side of the cells. The clamping force is not as strong as it could be with threaded rod but it keeps things from moving.

560ah 12v Bank for Sprinter RV

It's a 300 amp T-class fuse. I learned from this forum that T-class fuses are needed for large lithium banks because they have a high inrush current rating. In the case of a hard short circuit a conventional fuse or breaker could blow but still pass current via arcing. The 300 amp rating was...

560ah 12v Bank for Sprinter RV

We have a NovaKool R3800. It's rated at 2.1amps @ 12v. It seems to draw more than that in real life but I haven't measured it precisely.

560ah 12v Bank for Sprinter RV

You're right that 300 watts of solar isn't sufficient to charge the bank by itself. But when we are on the road we rarely stay in one place for more than a few days and so far it appears that only makes a minor dent in the battery bank's SOC. Driving brings the 60 amp DC-DC charger into play...

Can’t get my espresso maker to work! ?

The inverter/charger looks a lot like a rebrand or clone of a Kisae-Abso 2000. If so it should not be the problem. I have one and it is more than capable of supporting an 800 watt espresso maker. I have to think that a combination of undersized long cable runs and using the chassis as the...

560ah 12v Bank for Sprinter RV

Right. In my application with a 2000w inverter I would be hard pressed to exceed that.

560ah 12v Bank for Sprinter RV

Since I have learned so much from this forum I thought I would share my approach to upgrading my Sprinter RV's battery bank. When I bought my Winnebago ERA it had two undercarriage mounted 100Ah AGMs and no inverter. Some years ago I added a 300 watt Renogy solar array, a 20 amp MPPT charge...

New Supplier for 280Ah cells: Shenzen Basen

Well they may not be happy about doing it. This was the 1st time I have ordered from Alibaba and was expecting email communication not the internal messaging system so I missed it when she express concerns about the extra battery. I think they just gave up and filled the order but it was three...

I bought nine. Basen sent three boxes of three, with the extra spaces filled with foam.

New Supplier for 280Ah cells: Shenzen Basen

I ordered 9 280ah cells from Basen on 9/20. They were shipped on 9/23 and arrived today in CA in perfect condition. Pleased so far..

New Supplier for 280Ah cells: Shenzen Basen

The FedEx number is a placeholder. When my order shipped the FedEx site said they would be delivered in three days from Santa Fe Springs CA ?. Then the next day the status changed to “Pending”. Supposedly the number will go live when the shipment clears customs and is delivered to FedEx

Fatal accident caused by loose panel on road

This was mounted on a smooth steel roof. I would never use VHB on EPDM.

Fatal accident caused by loose panel on road

I installed 3 100W Renogy panels on my Sprinter in 2016. I used 3M VHB tape on aluminum pads that were in turn attached to standard Z brackets. I caulked the pads to keep water out but I don't know if that was necessary. To be clear the front two panels were secured to the roof rail on one...

Intriguing. It’s hard to find batteries with gold plated stigmas at this price point.

    Permits required?

If your installation is going to connect to the grid in any way you absolutely need a permit and permission from the power company. If it's entirely a standalone system then while most jurisdictions would probably still require a permit, as a practical matter you might be able to skip it.

Actual dimensions of EVE 280ah cells?

Mine are going in one 1x8 stack with room at the end for a compression plate, battery switch and terminals so the 173mm dimension is most critical. I guess I'll just make a few mm bigger and add a few more sheets of insulation if necessary.

Actual dimensions of EVE 280ah cells?

I am fabricating a steel case for 8x 280ah Eve cells and for scheduling reasons I need to make the case before my cells arrive from Basen. EVE docs say the cells are 173mm L x 72mm W x 204mm H. For any of you who have them in hand are those measurements more or less accurate? They will be...

    Solar System for 25' motorhome

The Kisea Abso will work with Lithium batteries but it doesn’t have a lithium-specific charge setting . The main consequence is that it has a float stage that’s needed for AGM and other lead acid batteries to maintain their charges when idle but is not needed or desirable for Lithium. I am...

    Solar System for 25' motorhome

That’s true, but it all depends on the OP’s requirements. I use my inverter mostly to run a 900w coffee maker every day while traveling and a 1500w microwave occasionally. I really don’t need surge capability and wanted to save space and money. The OP’s priorities might be different though.

    Solar System for 25' motorhome

I’m sure that the Victron inverter charger is very good but I have had good luck with a considerably less expensive Kisae Abso 2000w inverter/charger I bought about four years ago. Doesn’t have the Victron ecosystem but it does have a nifty control panel that can be remotely mounted in your RV...

    How hot do BMS get?

Thanks for the replies. I just found a remnant sheet of 1/16" FR4 fiberglass for cheap at my local plastics store that will go over the bank. I'm not going to worry about that melting.

    How hot do BMS get?

I plan to top balance the cells before installation. The cells are coming from Basen - I wont know how well matched the cells are until I get them. I understand that the BMS will generate heat in the course of resistive balancing but my concern is the heat not melt plastic (for ex HDPE ~ 110C)...

    How hot do BMS get?

I'm planning to build a 4s2p 12v 560ah out of EVE 280ah cells and have two Overkill BMSes. Because of space constraints the series packs will be stacked inline in a long narrow steel case. I'd like to have the BMS's mounted to a rigid plastic shelf over the cells but I don't know how hot the...

DC>DC charger AND isolator? Or instead of isolator?

I am in the same process and pondering the same question. Most discussions I have seen talk about either/or not both. I don’t know what the consequences if any would be if both were used but the Renogy DC-DC charger has isolation built in. It takes a positive current from the vehicle ignition...

    Order Extra EVE 280ah Cell(s)?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and have been lurking with great interest. I'm planning to build a 560ah 12v bank of 8 cells to replace the undersized AGM bank in my RV. My question is does it make sense to or is it advisable to buy an extra cell or cells in case of unforeseen issues? I...
