Need a 10U or 12U rack for Signature Solar batteries

Looking to use Signature Solar EG4 battery packs. For floor space reasons, we need a single "foot print" rack that will take 10 to 12 batteries. Does anyone make a rack that supports the weight and current of a battery system like this? Essentially a double 6U Signature Solar rack. Thanks! Sid

Half-cell panels better than full-cell panels for shading?

I keep seeing half-cell panels being recommended over full-cell panels to deal with shading issues. If you have any shading issues, won't the entire cell be affected? I am assuming that the paired 'halves' are adjacent to each other and are not a top versus bottom split of the panel.

    Goal Zero Yeti?

I am looking for a better "power center" to use camping than a bunch of random power banks that are all USB based. I am initially thinking about the Yeti 200x or 500x so, nothing super big or heavy. I am looking to provide some power if my car battery is dead (I travel with a small charger car...

Future of DIY LiFePO4 looks bleak…

From ~95% to 100%, the voltage measurement differences are pretty small as you are way past the knee of the voltage/charge curve. At least that is what we see with our battery tests and our our batteries. My bank is ~35Kwh and a friends primary bank is ~60Kwh Flashlight and RC batteries can...

Future of DIY LiFePO4 looks bleak…

In my case, I have LiFePo4 batteries. If you charge them to ~95% vs. 98% and limit the discharge to 20% (from zero), you increase their "cycle life" significantly. On my new Galaxy cellphone, I did the 85% charge limit and it seems to have made a significant difference after 12 months of...

Future of DIY LiFePO4 looks bleak…

Tesla, Generac, and others are starting to build 'powerwalls' which work well for this type of situation. You can charge during off-peak and then consume during peak usage rates. As you add solar panels, they can charge your 'powerwall' as well.

I could use a little help for my friend with the JBD BMS selection with battery heater pad support

Regarding the burn through the night, his smallest battery pack is 160Ah x 16 so ~20W/hr should be manageable. He has fish that will die in cold weather if he can't keep the power on. We have unreliable power locally, going 'off-grid' protects his fish. The new battery pack won't take cold...

I could use a little help for my friend with the JBD BMS selection with battery heater pad support

My friend was looking at some YouTube video with a JBD BMS that had an output to drive a couple heater pads for the LiFePo4 batteries. It appeared the heater pads that were attached to sides of the batteries were connected directly to the BMS. Searching Ali Express has turned up some BMS...

    Wind generator with solar panels?

As noted above, the voltage spikes from a Wind Turbine will destroy your Solar components if you don't have the parts in place appropriate for it. My friend runs a similar Wind Generator and has a "special" charge controller that dumps the power into a large 48VDC lead-acid battery system since...

I bought 32 CATL 302Ah batteries from Jenny a while back and tried to order another BMS from Doncan later but, the order was canceled because they have a non-compete clause as explained by Doncan.

Docan is a separate company from Jenny. Jenny only accepts bank wire transfers or credit cards processed on Alibaba. Jenny's products can be picked up at the Docan Power storefront but, they are effectively like a drop-off site for Amazon, FedEx, or UPS.

Wanted: Pure sine wave 48VDC inverter (only) > 2,000W

I have a JBD BMS system for the LiFeP04 batteries so, tying that back to the Inverter is a good idea. Regarding high-frequency inverters, I'm really thinking a low frequency is best for a lot of my loads. My welder runs at a ~10% duty cycle so a low-frequency inverter seems like a much better...

Wanted: Pure sine wave 48VDC inverter (only) > 2,000W

I have looked at the Midnite Solar DIY models which are as you describe. Not a total deal breaker but, my experience with Chinese Charge Controllers has generally been bad. That's why I don't run them on anything that matters and so far have only run Samlex PST series inverters. 1500W is just...

Wanted: Pure sine wave 48VDC inverter (only) > 2,000W

I can get another Samlex PST-1500W 48Vdc inverter but, I'm really looking for something bigger and low frequency to tap my ~35Kwhr of usable battery. High frequency is nice but, the durability of low frequency is attractive on its own in addition to its surge capacity and dealing with sustained...

    EV's and Batteries

The backing on the panels we have had in service for ~15 years are reaching their end of life. I expect the acids generated to start cutting traces in a few years. The studies we have seen, suggest the new bifacial panels will last 30 years or more in accelerated tests. Ask me again when I'm...

    EV's and Batteries

This ignores the issues of sourcing raw and scarce materials and their costs and impacts on the Earth. Just look at the Atacama Desert as one example of an impact most EV drivers are oblivious to. If all you consider is the cost of energy without any other impacts, then more efficient energy...

Regarding LiFeP04 batteries, I'm glad I got some before they went out of stock. The ones available today suggest when the ones I bought return to the marketplace, they will probably be more expensive than I can reasonably afford.

    EV's and Batteries

I lived with a little Kawasaki KLX-250S for ~6 months in my mid-30's and I could pack a week's worth of groceries in one trip. The eggs though had to go in a camping egg-crate to keep from breaking them.

    EV's and Batteries

During my time in Europe, Germany and the Netherlands mostly, I did so without a car. The trains there are very convenient and cost-effective when I needed to travel further than I wanted to walk or ride a bicycle. Public transport in the EU is very efficient overall and, urban sprawl isn't...

    EV's and Batteries

Most EV buyers are buying the impression of being Earth-friendly without a basic grounding in the science and economics IMHO. The global damage to the Earth acquiring the raw materials for EV cars is overlooked by most people on the EV bandwagon. Then there is the issue of where they get to...

Lithium batteries everywhere I have looked are all up in price or simply out of stock. Lockdowns in China, transportation issues, inflation, and a host of related issues along with classic 'supply and demand' have all pushed prices up a pretty good amount. As existing stocks of smaller...

Mine was on Alibaba. That is how they handle payments on credit cards and PayPal. If you wire direct, you save the Alibaba/Aliexpress fees but, don't have any middleman recourse if things go awry, not that either will of those Chinese companies will protect you.

I can confirm that Liticore and Docan are both at Suite 219. I picked up my batteries there and it was a good experience. DIY LiFePO4 Cost Analysis - February 2022 Edition

I thought I replied to this yesterday but, I don't see the post. I just bought 32 CATL 302Ah batteries from Jenny/Docan with a pickup in Houston for $143/ea. Delivered I believe they are $160/ea. Price shipped directly from China has gone up recently. My shipping quote from China was ~$800...

I ordered my 200A BMS direct from JBD out of China. I bought my 32 CATL 302Ah batteries from Jenny at the Houston location. The overall cost for Alibaba fees and credit card fees was ~5% based on memory. In my case, the cost of using the bank direct transfer payment and Alibaba/Credit card...

DIY LiFePO4 Cost Analysis - February 2022 Edition

My recent pricing was $120/ea from China without shipping or importation impacts due to docking and unloading issues versus $143/ea in Houston for in-stock batteries. Houston is close enough to me so, it wasn't worth $17/ea for shipping ~4 hours away. Also, the China shipping cost was pretty...

DIY LiFePO4 Cost Analysis - February 2022 Edition

Good luck. The boxes contain 2 batteries and foam. I doubt they will fit your Camry. They deliver for free so, that's the option I am going to take even though I live in East Texas and head that direction 3 or 4 times a year.
