Feast or Famine, The off grid solar dilemma.

Feast: Creating the problem of way too much energy is the first post. It means you can have the fun of figuring out how best to use it. I set up two old 2400 watt fan heaters with WiFi timers. They were only needed 10AM until 2PM to shave the top off the peak export time. Initially I used...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

Yes I need to test Boost Converter using DC only loads. You guys have probably said this a number of times but I was just too dumb. I have been using a old 24VDC to 240VAC inverter with 240V globes on other side. to TRY & set load. In hindsight this has been a mistake. I will get a string of...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

IO7's do not require grounding. As I understand it - any shorting on the DC side is put back through the AC earth cable. "The microinverter itself has a Class II double-insulated rating, which includes ground fault protection (GFP). To support GFP, use only PV modules equipped with DC cables...

Circuit photo below. I will try to draw up similar to the other. I hope this answers a lot: . I measured as far apart as possible. I am a member of an electronics forum here in Perth Western Australia. I am going to see if one of those guys can come out to sort out more information for you...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

Sorry. My drawing is not that good. Definitely - we have three phase. New houses are single phase. All the Enphase microinverter plugs I have can utilize any one 3 phase. Definitely OK. Will look at this more tomorrow.k

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

Sorry - I get it it. Each battery has its own BMS. I have updated circuit. I have not tested the IQ7A yet. . Yes it is a combiner box with breakers. The Envoy is across all three phases. All Enphase MicroInverters go through two phases. I measures all current going anywhere in the house going...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

I measured three MicroInverters the best I could get was 0.1 ohms so I reckon 0.05 ohms on them all. Did this no problem This is the new circuit: . Circuit with relay: . I am using old style globes (mix 25W to 100W) to get the draw through a 24V inverter pretty close to what I want. Using an...

I will try to get this reading to you. I tried another brand new boost converter - exactly the same model - but I just cannot get it to control the current. This is the eighth time I have tried to replicate it. (5 Boost Converters the same & three other types.) Why the first one is working I do...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

I crimp & solder every joint. No dielectric grease. The EV Power came with a shunt & a reader but I disconnected the reader & I am going to take the shunt out. I just don't use it. I can see from the Envoy data what each battery is doing easily. No thick cables - just 20Amp cables. I have...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

That is correct - there has always been some relay - even if only the timer relay. I believe this may be the case. I am not sure how to measure ON resistance. I can do this but I am not sure how to do it. I have a spare 12V one I can break apart & measure what ever is needed & take photos...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

I switch from my battery via the timer. The booster only comes on after the times switches it on. So it is always Battery -> Timer -> then all other devices after that. Originally I powered my timer from the battery but on the new setup I use a 240V AC power supply to power timer. (24VDC) Just...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

FYI All my setups go through the Envoy. Possibly an important point I failed to detail clearly. Originally I thought the MicroInverters would not work without it. Mainly I wanted to monitor production. I had no idea re the above.

    Run on Timer Switch

I think this may end up similar to pollenface's. (turns off once a day at sunset) On the Wi-Fi Smart Plugs you can permanently Schedule them to turn off a number of times a day. Say 00AM - 06 -12 -18 - 24PM So - if you do turn them on they will turn off at the nearest Scheduled time. Say turn on...

    Run on Timer Switch

I made some 0- 99 minute run-on (delay?) timer switches for USD $12. I cannot find any , to suit me, that run for long times that are a reasonable price. A number of devices I accidentally leave on & they chew my spare power so this is my first design to combat the issue. I hope to fit one in an...

We get no bonus here at all. Part of this is battery energy this year About 14kw per day. All my electricity is 240v AC. I don't understand the bonus power at all. I have produced 6300kw, so far, this year. (1568kw from battery) Last year 12,100kw all up. ( About1400kw from battery)

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

I currently use fan heaters on Wi-Fi timers to burn off excess production. The one shown is under my carport outside. Our limit here is 5KW per hour during the day. I stay under 3KW easily by turning one of those on 10AM-2PM. I turn on more fan heaters if needed. I plan to use 3 CT auto...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

I have never worked out efficiency, or bothered with it but I have a lot of room for panels and lots of sunlight. So I just add more panels. My theory is - the efficiency problem will be sorted by new, cheap, devices coming on. I will put them in when available.
