Too much voltage for my MPPT?

Hi, I have a Victron Smartsolar 150/35 and I have two 485w solar panels wired in series. I'm considering upgrading my solar system with one extra solar panel that fit's the amperage of the other panels and I want to wire it in series with the residual two panels. The VOC would be 129v. It seems...

MRBF fuses for battery parallel connection?

Hi, I'm upgrading my solar system after about 8 months since I built it with one extra lithium battery that I will wire in parallel with the older one. The battery is Elkersolutions lifepo4 24v 100Ah. Currently I have one 300A MRBF fuse right on the positive terminal and I'm using a 2/0 AWG...

Should I add a fuse to my battery pack?

Hi, I'm upgrading my solar system after about 8 months since I built it with one extra lithium battery that I will wire in parallel with the older one. The battery is Elkersolutions lifepo4 24v 100Ah. Currently I have one 300A MRBF fuse right on the positive terminal. What I researched so far...

    Battery shows very low voltage

No, I don't have that kind of a charger. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to contact the seller before doing anything? It seems like a warranty issue. I tried that multimeter on my car battery and it shows correct measurements so it's definitely something wrong with that Elkersolutions battery.

    Battery shows very low voltage

Hi, I just finally connected together my solar system and the Smartsolar does not turn on after connected to a battery. I suppose it should turn on the small light, but it doesn't. I checked the voltage of the battery (24 volt battery) and it shows only around 2 volts. When connected with the...

Do I need a bus bar?

I want to thank you for taking the time to explain this to me. Finally I think I understand what I was missing. So it doesn't matter if you're using a busbar or not. Everything is interconnected, creating a system and the SCC is the only device that can put the system voltage back to it's 100%...

Blue sea says I should use 0/4 AWG. Why?

No it's the combined length. Both positive and negative cables. When you click next to the red asterisk it shows info about each input. I attached a screenshot.

Blue sea says I should use 0/4 AWG. Why?

I use this calculator - https://www.explorist.life/wire-sizing-calculator/ . When you put 300A, 24v and 2ft length, it says 2/0 AWG. I never plan to go above 300A and my main fuse is at 300A as well. So why do they say in the description that 2/0 is only good for 200A max. Based on the wire...

Blue sea says I should use 0/4 AWG. Why?

Hello again,? I ordered this product https://www.bluesea.com/products/7748/SafetyHub_150_Fuse_Block and I'm just trying to figure out what size cable should I use between this Safetyhub and my 24v battery. As you can see in the description, it says for maximum combined operating amperage 200A...

Do I need a solar diconnect?

Okay, you convinced me. I ordered this https://www.amazon.com/Low-voltage-Miniature-Circuit-Breaker-Panels/dp/B0746DLP7S/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2N4Y64P4BEVNC&keywords=dc+double+pole+circuit+breaker&qid=1675080658&sprefix=dc+breaker+double%2Caps%2C225&sr=8-3 and this...

Do I need a solar diconnect?

Hi, I'm just ordering the last few things I need to finish my project and I was wondering if there is any other reason to install a solar disconnect except for the practicality of it? I'm hesitant to spend any extra money because I already spent more then I planned. Is there any actual...

Do I need a bus bar?

I'm thinking of going for the MRBF fuse. I found this one with the holder on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Bay-Marine-Single-Terminal-included/dp/B07LC6B7DR?th=1 . I probably need 300 A because I'm going to connect it to a busbar. Do you know of some shop that has MRBF fuses or busbars and...

Do I need a bus bar?

Thanks for the explanation. It really helped. So the system is configurated in a way that the power stored in the battery is only used when the SCC can't provide enough from the solar panels. Is this correct? But which device manages this? Let's say you start the coffee maker, so the inverter...

Do I need a bus bar?

So you're saying the MRBF fuse has sufficient AIC rating for my 24v lithium battery? Also I have a somewhat dumb questions about basic laws of electricity. These questions were the reason I didn't want to get into busbars at first. If we look at the busbars on the diagram you sent, we can say...

Continuous power vs surge power for the fuse and the wire sizing?

Thanks for the calculation. I'm planning to build my system like on the diagram I attached. No bus bars. Does it mean I need to use three T-class fuses if I have 3 pairs of cables connected to the battery terminals? I have a 24v 100ah lithium battery

But I should have three T-class fuses because I have 3 pairs of cables connected to battery right?

Do I need a bus bar?

Hi, I'm just building my off grid system and I've been learning everything from scratch during the past few months. Someone shared this diagram (the first picture I attached) and it all seemed very simple and convenient so I'm planning to copy it. The other reason I want to copy it is that I get...

Is 91.24 Voc of panels combined okay for a 100/50 smartsolar?

I found a guy on marketplace that sells solar cables from a brand called Helukabel. It's a portuguese company. He would crimp and cut everything for me. 6 mm2 (10AWG) for 1.50 €/m. Plus 3€ for crimping 2 MC4 connectors. I was thinking I could give him the exact measurements and buy all the other...

Continuous power vs surge power for the fuse and the wire sizing?

This is a pretty expensive inverter. It costs 600€. How do you know it doesn't have a fan? On this picture it seems like there is a fan.

Is 91.24 Voc of panels combined okay for a 100/50 smartsolar?

I think you may have misunderstood. I didn't approach the seller like that. I explained to him my mistake and kindly asked him to replace it. I mentioned the law here just to reassure that it shouldn't be a problem. I myself don't like laws or governments. But I see it like this - Somebody put...

Continuous power vs surge power for the fuse and the wire sizing?

I understand that within such short period of time it won't overheat but what about the fuse sizing? Imagine I put a 100A fuse on the wire and there comes a situation where the appliances need 150A for a few miliseconds. Wouldn't it trip the fuse? As I said I heard that some fuses would trip...

Continuous power vs surge power for the fuse and the wire sizing?

Hi, can someone please explain what determines the size of the cable and the size of the fuse from the battery to the inverter. I have a 24v battery bank and I'm planning to buy a 2000w inverter with a 4000w surge power. People usually reference the continuous power when deciding on the wire and...

Is 91.24 Voc of panels combined okay for a 100/50 smartsolar?

I already sent an email to the seller. I realized that there is a law that applies on all EU countries that you can return any unused item (there are some exceptions) you purchased online within 14 days without giving a reason. So I hope there shouldn't be a problem. I also thought about a...

Is 91.24 Voc of panels combined okay for a 100/50 smartsolar?

I think I made a wrong decision with the SCC. I'm not sure if I'm correct on this so I thought I would ask in this thread again. I used this wire sizing calculator https://www.explorist.life/wire-sizing-calculator/ and I made an error when I was putting the numbers into the calculator a few...

Is 91.24 Voc of panels combined okay for a 100/50 smartsolar?

I appreciate all the info you've given, but the order's been already shipped today so it would be difficult to change now and I don't really want to mess with it. The thing I don't understand from your post is about the 150/35 SCC. I cannot really go higher with the panels because of our...

Is 91.24 Voc of panels combined okay for a 100/50 smartsolar?

Here is the link to the shop and their panel selection - https://www.solarshop.pt/gb/photovoltaic-solar-panels Why would connecting the panels in series make such a difference for the production? When I looked into it, it seemed there is only a minimal difference. In my situation, there are a...

Is 91.24 Voc of panels combined okay for a 100/50 smartsolar?

I made a post a while ago in "Off-grid living advice" category. https://diysolarforum.com/threads/ac-vs-dc-fridges-for-off-grid-use.50973/#post-647800 . I got some good advice there and since then I changed a lot of my plans for the solar system. The order's just being prepared for shipping...

Do anybody know this Cllena power outlet? Does it make sense?

okay, thanks for clarifying. One more question - do I have to check the phones manuals or the laptop, or the router whether it can be charged on 24v socket? I thought the only thing to check is the charger with the cable. For example I have 2 phone chargers that are both suited for 12/24v. I...

Do anybody know this Cllena power outlet? Does it make sense?

but most of my appliances are suited for 12/24v. It's only the kettle that can only handle 12 volts. So I'm planning to buy one outlet like I sent here with more sockets, that I will connect straight to the 24v battery. I will use it for laptop, phones, hotspot router, flashlight etc. So that's...

Is 91.24 Voc of panels combined okay for a 100/50 smartsolar?

So I'm planning to build something like a tiny home solar design for daily use. Is 91.24 Voc of panels combined okay for a 100/50 smartsolar?

This is the datasheet of the panel I'm planning to buy. I want to buy that 485w panel x2. It's not in english, but it's probably possible to figure it out. I didn't buy anything yet, no wires, nothing. I didn't want to go higher with the controller, because the 150/45 would cost me almost 200 €...

Is 91.24 Voc of panels combined okay for a 100/50 smartsolar?

Hi, I'm just looking for some advice about exceeding voltage of MPPT controllers. I live in Portugal. Winters are very mild. It rarely ever gets below 0°. I found this coefficient factor spreadsheet that says for -1 to -5 you should calculate 1.12 times your rated Voc. So for me it would be...
