Do these inverters have to be used with sever rack batteries and their comms? Can I use my own 48v LFP battery? Seems like a shunt and monitor would work in place of comms.

Correct, this is called open loop. Set your battery to user and program your charging parameters into the AIO.

Thanks. I figured. I've been looking at the 6500EX, but haven't seen anyone not using a server rack. I've downloaded the manual, but have yet to peruse it.

Look for threads with the LV6548 as well... Pretty much the same inverter, main difference being max VOC pending model year.
