Hi there,

I have an Eaton 5E850iUSB that has 1x 12v 9ah battery in it and is rated for 450w power draw. If I add two new 12v 9ah batteries in series would this effectively double the rated power draw capacity? The UPS will only ever be used when grid switches off and the lithium batteries kick in (they don't switch fast enough to connect directly to my devices) so roughly less than 1 second.

When 2 x 12V batteries are connected in Series the voltage doubles to 24V. The product information indicates 12V/9Ah is the battery rating for that model number. and there is no information to suggest it is a dual voltage device. The higher battery voltage could very likely damage the UPS.

If you connected 2 x 12V batteries in Parallel then you would get twice the run time BUT the output would not be higher than the rating of 450W which is a limitation of the internal electronics.
