Eg4 6500ex can't update firmware

It looks like you need the additional firmware cable. Can you send me an email at peyton@signaturesolar.com? I'll get with someone to get you a cable out.
Can you please let me know which cables I need to get to update the firmware for error 61? I have 2 of these inverters that I am just now using to build my system and immediately got the error that prevents me from moving forward. It's frustrating that I can't even use these inverters because they came to me faulty and without the cables I need to fix them. I have usb/rj45 cables but they are apparently for only the batteries. When I look on the SS website I see that you offer

EG4 Firmware Cable for EG4 EX Inverters (6500EX & 6000EX) SKU:1511221.

Is this the cable I need to fix my inverters? Thanks.

Each EG4 6500EX inverter ships with a serial RJ45-to-DP9 cable (see: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/eg4-6500ex-cant-update-firmware.60715/post-751581). To connect this to the PC you need to buy a serial DP9-to-USB adapter cable which has to be connected to the provided cable (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A1KD1K). I've successfully used this to update the firmware on my inverters.

I've never used the special cable from Signature Solar which you've mentioned (https://signaturesolar.com/eg4-firmware-cable-for-6kw-6-5kw/). But it sounds like that this may be a replacement for the above described solution with the 2 cables - but I'm not sure.

Don't use the RS485 cable which Signature Solar usually includes with an EG4 battery order (the one with the 2 cables attached with screws to the USB adapter)! This is only for upgrading the firmware for the EG4 batteries (see the first link in my answer).

Thank you for the reply. It's very frustrating that SS would ship out products that (they know) are nonoperational out of the box. The idea that on top of that they don't include EVERYTHING needed for their customers to make them operational is insane. I have bought 2 inverters, 6 batteries and a cabinet from them and I've had issues at almost every step. their customer service hasn't exactly impressed me either.

Looks like I'll be buying even more stuff and waiting for it to arrive before I can use their equipment. I appreciate your help in getting the right stuff.

I keep getting this error while trying to update the inverter firmware. I have no problem updating the display firmware. I have tried multiple computers with serial ports and also purchased the Signature Solar USB to serial cable with the RJ45 plug on it and it also will not load the inverter firmware. I have made sure the correct com port is selected. Still no go. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

So with everything I've read, should it be possible to use the serial cables directly to an older PC serial port with a 16550A UART and have it work ok? I know when trying to use the supplied DB9 to RJ45 cable that came with the inverter to update the firmware, the transfer would always bomb out with errors part way through.
