My thread disappeared so trying again. Cutting to the chase will a EU inverter L/N/G on 240v run a standard American 30 gallon 4500w 240v water heater? If so what would be the best way to wire it up?

The wiring is all the same to L/N/G. Most American devices are 120Vac, but since the water heater runs at 240v, I think it will work with the 240v inverter.

Thanks! It's a double element and I've seen people talking about parallel and series wiring but as I understand it series will reduce the voltage to each element. Is that correct?

V=IR, so in series will be half the voltage on each element, but as P=VI and you will also have halved the current, the power will be a quarter.

Note also that UK/EU devices will run at 50Hz, not 60Hz. If only connected to an isolated element that should not be an issue.
