The IMP of the panels is 5.37 & 5.41 and the VOC is 22.6 & 23.1. I was told since those numbers are close, its ok to mix these in a series string. Is that correct? Thanks.

Here is the math on how it works - this is true for all series/parallel strings (even matching ones).

In series volts add - use the smallest amps.
In parallel amps add - use the smallest volts.
Use Vmp and Imp for these calculations.

These are my assumptions of the panels: (I used math to figure out the Vmp - how close was I?):
Panel1 Voc 22.6 Vmp 18.62 Imp 5.37
Panel2 Voc 23.1 Vmp. 18.48 Imp 5.41

Volts add 18.62+18.48=37.1
Use lowest amps - 5.37
Volts * Amps = Watts
37.1 * 5.37 = 199 watts

Those two panels are so close your penalty for putting them in series is only 1watt.

I often read online that it's not recommended to connect different brand panels together...but I think Rocketman's post is very reliable.
