so why not over panel the crap out of my systems? (keeping under voltage/current of course)

If you can point some east and some west (assuming most are south), you can widen your charging hours. This is probably more fruitful than OPTSOOMS.

hmm hadn't actually thought to much about adding some east/westies - have a great north facing space, will have to try to calculate if the extra harvest would be worth the cabling.

Yes, seems I took some liberty with your wording, sorry.

But extending your charging by aiming parts of your array in different directions is often a good strategy.
