This is going to seem very general, but this is the way the Legal Systemand Law in our country views these matters. If one thing is considered equal from the beginning, is that we are all born onto "one nation, under God(whatever or whoever that may be to you)"
The most ironic thing about the last part of this discussion, is people still denying that they follow a God or religion at all and (in this country at least) one if their own choosing. When you get down to it, lawfully the 1st amendment protects one in this country in following whatever God, way of life, and the religion/bible/legal texts that teach a "way to live", or path to follow.
The addition to this though is the broad societal 'Law of the Land', which in essence is, live and let live, and do no harm.
It's pretty obvious, even to the most devout followers of any law system / religion, that ones God, is not a floating head in the sky. That's just being naive to believe that everyone following a religion thinks their superhuman God (or the thing that controls the way they live their lives) is magic in anyway at all.
Everyone, EVERYONE has a God, something that is Superhuman, something that one stands under (understands) and that ultimately controls ones life. Whether you realize it or deny it is on you, but this has been spelled out time and time again under supreme court rulings. This falls in line very clearly with the first amendment, which allows, lawfully all associations / disassociations; as with no other part of the constitution, law of the land, and natural law, can you sell, contract away, all other rights under the constitution except through this first amendment. Happens all the time. For all God given, natural rights, I dont care what you call them, have value, and the first amendment allows one to basically do with what one wants with those valuable rights, whether its retain, or trade them for benefits and privileges.
To conclude this, The Godless (lawless) almost always end up in a cage. Everyone has a God, which one is yours? What contracts have you signed? What benefits and privileges have you retained, while agreeing to to also take on any and all liabilities of said benefits?
The best thing is in this country we are all born equal, under the same Law, but through our decisions and actions in life we dont always end up that way. Whose laws do you follow? What rights have you contracted away? And for what benefit to yourself? If it is of benefit then use it! But if has come with liability attached, why did one make the decision to retain at the cost of a God given, Constitutional, Natural right?
The law or ones god can always be left up to interpretation, which happens all the time through a court(or forum) of ones peers. What cant be left up to interpretation is the fact that we all have a God, something Superhuman (greater than ones self), that controls our decisions and lives we live.
