Solar Combiner boxes - (they in Parallel or Series)

newbie question I'm having trouble locating answers to

Do solar combiner boxes wire the panels in Series or Parallel, or is it configurable?

I can't say that I know but normally you could do your series connections between panels that were beside each other, to make a string. Then the strings are combined (normally in parallel) in the combiner box. I don't know if a box is configurable or not. Do you panels placed where you can't series them at the panels?

As far as I know there is no reason to use a combiner box for series connections. The point of a combiner box is to combine and fuse parallel strings. For series you simply connect the panels + to - or - to +.
