I recently purchased (16) 445w Canadian Solar panels from Solar Steals and wanted to provide an update for everyone.
I paid $2,880 with free shipping and no tax, I felt it was a pretty darn good deal all things considered. Shipping took a bit longer than I expected, not the actual shipping part but the “panels have left our warehouse” part. It didn’t make much of a difference to me, but I was surprised it wasn’t faster.
They were delivered just over a week ago. The first thing the driver said was how well packaged they were, so that’s a plus for them. Unfortunately it was obvious something had been dropped/stacked on top and had shattered the top panel. Driver noted it, said it was obviously their fault and away he went.
I emailed Solar Steals and provided the pictures they tell you they need (picture with the delivery truck still there, which I got lucky he didn’t rush out and I was able to spot the broken one). They offered to refund the $180 that panel cost me, and said they couldn’t really ship a single panel.
I asked about buying a handful more and shipping it all together to make it less likely to be an issue, they sent me a quote that included $400+ in shipping and I simply wasn’t willing to pay that. So I took the refund.
Fast forward to yesterday and I finally have unloaded all the panels as I was putting them up on my solar pergola, and I found the second to last panel shattered, it appears to have had something heavy right in the middle of it. Reached back out to them and again sent the photos, same scenario and an offer of a $180 refund.
At this point I was somewhat stuck, I needed at least 15 panels to cover my pergola, so I asked if he could try to look into options to get me either (1) or (4) panels. Having one would work, having four would give me another row I really don’t need, but wouldn’t hate having.
$622 later I paid for (4) panels to be sent, I then received a call and was told they were throwing in another panel for my troubles.
All in all, assuming the remaining panels show up as expected they have earned a thumbs up from me. I’d happily do business with them again.
