Solar water heater - I don’t get it

In my particular case solar thermal would be near impossible to do. 70% of my panels are shaded at any time. There just isn't any place that gets sun long enough. Solar thermal generally has large tanks that circulate. The means heating an entire tank. I use small tanks. Primary is 4 gallon which heats rater quickly. You could take a shower with that. secondary tank is a preheat. A third 40 gallon tank is just for laundry and for excess of the excess PV. Top 15 gallons stratifies and heats easily. Not an issue if the water doesn't get extremely hot some days. I have a pretty minimal system which most people think couldn't run a fridge. I get enough excess for domestic hot water to 60C by 10:30am so she can run the dishwasher. I outperform those who heat with PV resistive who only sense battery voltage to turn on and off.
