SPD or Breakers?

Or should I say SPD and breakers? What's everyones take on having an SPD between the panels and the inverter? My combiner boxes will have breakers between the two but that's not the same as surge device. What about between the inverter and the main load center?
 
For a 600VDC PV system, SPD might be 900V or more. They are for very brief high spikes.
Select SPD rated for use with your DC voltage and for your AC voltage, not by breakdown voltage of the SPD.
(Read the specs, not just the part number.)

Breakers serve as a disconnect, and provide overload and short circuit protection (at least on AC side if connected to grid, often they will never trip where inverter powers an off-grid house, or PV panels feed an inverter, because not enough current drive behind them.)
