everybody can argue back and forth...what I see is Venezuela 15 years ago... stand by... raise plenty of dogs and cats to eat, and when they run out...eat your zoo animals (you can fire the zookeepers after that and save a few bucks.)

As for folks in the country... go back to 2 and 3 acre plots for your own veggies and learn how to can again. keep a few chickens, pigs and cows for yourself...(not talking your wives by the way... no "chicken heads", no fat pigs, and no lazy cows), get back to families that provide for themselves and say screw the coasts. think 1929 or so.

I found this thread on the What's new page and didn't realize it is on the Off Topic chit chat area. I didn't realize that at first and thought all the off topic stuff was inappropriate. It seems this is exactly what this particular forum is for so I am just enjoying all the back and forth discussion.

I was lucky enough to set my servers loose on the last hours of the Parler hack. Had something like 500 Docker containers running, would have 10x more had the date happened a few weeks later. Got myself in to the 40th percentile of contributors in two hours.

Why would Venezuela stand out in your example? Socialism is a failed model, but it is not what caused Venezuela's collapse.. that was our doing. The USA is responsible for it.
 
I've been mulling this over and have come to the conclusion that the solution isn't to figure out how to unload more stuff at the ports .... the solution is to import less stuff.

It's been brought up a few times over the course of this thread ..... we need to get our manufacturing back.

If quality cells were made here, I think the majority of us would stop buying from the other side of the world in short order. Look at the instant success of the vendors who are keeping US stock .... even better if those were made here.
There are all kinds of reasons we gotta turn this around.

For a short term solution, use those port resources harder ... but don't expand them ... expand manufacturing.

Search out and find the things that are already made here. More and more things can be found online that are made here .... and similar to these cells we like, even though they may cost more up front, they last longer.

Quit buying those crappy belts that start fraying around the edges in about 6 months and buy one online that will last many years.

Some of you engineers get entrepreneurial and start selling a bms made here.

and we the USA will be responsible for our own collapse as well. I will be either dead, or sitting with new citizenship here in japan depending upon when the collapse happens, but if changes are not made immediately it will happen, and biden and a few other idiots are unfortunately hastening it.

The USA probably won't collapse in the typical catastrophic over-night type thing preppers believe in. While it certainly could, it would most likely require an external event such as a nuclear attack or major natural disaster like Yellowstone for that to happen. Nope, I don't think the USA is going out with a bang, it will instead be more of a whimper. A three to four decade long slow decline of capitalism run-a-muck.

As far as Biden is concern.. not sure how to take your statement. While the statement is certainly true, it has exclusive tones to it as if Trump wasn't part of the problem as well.
Trump was very much part of the problem, as was Obama and Bush before him.

The problem(s) are systemic.. of most notoriety is the national debt.. Our federal government is spending money like a teenage girl in a shopping mall with daddy's credit card. When Obama took office, the national debt was 10 Trillion.. After 8 years, it was 20 Trillion... Obama sunk us further into debt at a rate of 5 Trillion per 4yr term.. When Trump took office, the debt was at 20 Trillion and in just 4 years, he borrowed 7 Trillion more.. Had he stayed in office, he would have borrowed even more in his next term.

No president wants to be in the big chair and tell the spoiled, ignorant, bratty, entitled population of the USA that we have to spend money responsibly..
Why do we have social security taxes? = Because people aren't responsible or intelligent enough to spend their money wisely.
Why do we have Unemployment? = Because people aren't responsible or intelligent enough to spend their money wisely.
Why did they hand out stimulus checks? Would you like to guess?

Something is going on in our country that I have yet to figure out. Someone really clever has divided American's into stupid political ideologies that are so radicalized that those who partake in the idiocy have become willfully ignorant of facts. And the problem is becoming so pronounced that it is apparent in everyday life with anecdotal evidence.

I keep telling people, if we want real change, always vote for the new guy no matter who he/she is or what party they are from. If we all did that for just two elections, the entire gov would be changed over.

Alot of the containers unloaded are not for usa consumption.

Most dont realize that Bnsf and UP are major movers of European destined containers. I would guess 30 to 40 % of our traffic is going to Europe. The USA is a land bridge. Cheaper than the Cape or canal.

Easy enough to say but on the Walmart aisle level how do you convince consumers to pay more? It is a solution that does not have a practical path forward. Who at a policy level would want to create an inflationary environment. Has anybody except Elon Musk figured out how to make Americam Industry more competitive. I mention Musk for what he has done to reduce the cost of travel to the Space Station. Boeing snd Grumman could not do it cost effectively. General Motors had to rely an Korean battery and drive drain engineers to develop the Bolt and look at where that ended up. I agree with your concept but few US corporations are up to the challenge.

Government policy has to incentivize companies to manufacture here instead of punishing them and making it harder.

I agree .... I'm not talking about subsidies .... I'm talking about not taxing them to death.

There's been too much intellectual property already lost. I doubt there is anything that can be done to correct that now.
