I just bought an Open Box Victron MPPT100 30 on ebay.
I just got it. It looks brand new in its packaging. I need to test it.
But meanwhile, I wonder if any warranty might apply or be extended, just in case it fails..
I am thinking that their warranty probably only extends to original owners.
Their general warranty doesn't say otherwise. It doesn't say much at all.
I am muddling with the idea of asking them about it though. Its just acedemic. Pedantic.
I have bought other
Open Box items with warranties granting to me, a second hand buyer. I think it was EVGA that redeemed warranty an expensive GTX 1070 FTW high end gamers video board I had bought on ebay. I think it was ASUS that replaced a bad motherboard I bought on ebay. I bought a pair of
used, Vintage Steiner 10x50 binoculars I had bought on a
ShopGoodWill online auction that were out of kilter. They were technically not under the current Steiner Life Time Warranty because up until 30 years ago when the company changed hands , it was a 25 year warranty or something, before the lifetime warranty had been established by new management. So technically my binoculars was under that 25 year warranty some 40 years ago. It is out of warranty. They have a fee schedule for sending them in for evaluation and repair estimate.
Because I asked, they very generously offered to wave that fee. So I sent them in.
To my delight they returned them to me, free of charge. They registered it to me.
They had dissasembled it, gave it a good cleaning, replaced some lost lens mounting shill that cause things to be out of kilter, and tuned its focus... all as a courtesy. FREE. ... and also offered me a 40% discount if I wanted to buy a new pair.
Steiner. Kudos. In my dialogs with their Service dude, it is at their discretion. They are not in the business of becoming a free repair service to people that trade in used goods. That is a real hazard of generous support.
Victron, like Steiner, like Gibson, like Remington, all strong brands in intensively competitive niche markets. Companies like these almost always offer Its courtesy to the public as a way to build their branding.
So, I am unabashedly trolling to find out what Victron's policy is on secondary market purchases.. Otherwise I need to get on with testing my new Open Box Victron MPPT100 30 that I just received.
Oh, the Pressure ...
