CATL 271Ah cell issues.

Another thing I noticed on these cells is that the studs are all messed up. Even the sales that aren't as beat up have stud damage from banging around.

I was just typing a similar comment. I think people are putting too much on the QR codes on these cells. I think if you want legit QR codes and really grade A, you need to pay Michael or Amy the extra $$. For the ones most of us get, if there is a QR code I'm pretty sure it is bogus, just pasted on there because they've heard that we out here like to see them.
The first batch of EVE cells Michael was selling have the QR codes etched into the aluminum. I believe this is how all the manufacturers apply the QR codes, as least on the larger cells. It's not a label. At first I thought it was but the QR code is engraved.

I showed you what they said. From there it will be a process of clarifying and battling them to do the right thing. So I can not say that it will be full or partial replacements right at the minute. All I can say is that I will be pushing for them to do what I would do if I were them and hope to get to that point in the end.
Just tell them if they do not replace the poorly packed by SUPPLIER shipments that were damaged, or provide a full refund for the same, that the folks at DIYsolarforum will begin a class action lawsuit with them, and include US Customs enforcement, along with UPS and FEDEX handlers, for shipping ILLEGALLY packaged and un-labeled hazardous material, in violation of international law.
We will be going after them for not only damages, but also for the health risk of exposing the freight company, and logistics company workers, along with the end user customer.

All of those cells absolutely must be replaced if you mean the terminals the studs are mounted to were pushed in or not straight. Thermal runaway? I don't want to see that happen to anyone.

If only this was a domestic shipment then it would be easy.

I will be honest by saying if it was me, I would not accept any of the cells that were damaged due to poor packaging and would be asking for a full refund or replacement. I am not going to point fingers at UPS either. The way this is going is making me angry, much less the packing of the cells in the first place. Were these cells sold as Grade A?

I am not convinced there is not any internal damage done to a cell that's dented, especially the dents I have seen in this thread. Damaged cell corners scares the hell out of me because the structure could be damaged and could leak or vent in that area. It might not leak immediately but over time it could. Why do the airlines always check for hairline cracks?

The supplier is responsible and should replace every single cell that's damaged no matter what the damage is. It's no ones fault the cells came packaged that way except the suppliers and Michael needs to hold them fully accountable. That's my 2 cents.

Another possibility is that the supplier intentionally poorly packed the cells ..... knowing they would get beat up and hide imperfections that existed prior to shipping.
In any case .... I concur that TOTAL reimbursement or replacement is what needs to happen. Can't let these suppliers get away with this kind of crap.

Dude you crack me up.
They are coming from a communist country that hates us.
What do you really think we can do ?

How else could you get someone to buy defective grade D cells? Sounds like a way better option then trying to recycle them.

Kinda reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer shipped Jerry’s busted stereo after insuring the shipment with USPS.

Best of luck for everyone involved. I love to save money but this episode has me willing to do more research on a local trusted vendor

I did pay extra for testing and matching cells......and got junk.....

@Michael B Caro
I am also just realizing, in our pre purchase discussion of the CATL cells busbars and hardware were to be included. I have neither.
Same, here, and no nuts on the terminals. with all of this, I forgot to even look to see if they were the M8 studs I ordered.

@Michael B Caro I just looked and the busted up cells I received were not even the ones that I ordered. These have the smaller studs, not the M8 (larger studs) I ordered. I am beginning to believe that what we were shipped was just some junk cells that they threw in a box that they knew were not going to make it to us in one piece.

I'm not sure the people hate us, just their government and system... Which also oppress it's own people

I haven't heard any more from the supplier since I got the messages I posted. I am hoping that the pictures for the shipping forwarder have nothing to do with how they handle the problem with us, just with if the forwarder has to bear some of the cost. Not sure if this supplier is one of them, but some suppliers actually send the cells to the forwarder on pallets and have the forwarder package them.
Believe it or not, this supplier's shipping rates are some of the highest, and so it is possible that they have the forwarder doing the packing and that is why their rates are high. That is something I will be asking about......but even then the forwarder should, I think, be packing according to the instructions from the supplier. Of course a decent forwarder wouldn't listen to instructions to pack them this way either.

Yeah I know, but its worth a shot. If they get blocked by US customs, at least it will be harder to rip off others.

I just checked and my terminals look like M6, I asked for M8.
I haven't received any nuts too. I only had busbars on 3 boxes (out of 4)
