diy solar

Very new to solar but started purchasing items, not sure of the final specs of the whole system.

We have been negative since 4:20pm yesterday, looks like the set of mordor due to how dark it is.
But one aspect of using the eg4 is working well. They allowed me to split the loads between the two
banks. Low 30's but by sharing the loads we no longer have one bank dropping very fast and its holding
up much better. I still believe that a secondary heat source is needed during the colder months/clouds and
will work on that for next winter.

We can last a little longer now with no clouds/negative each day. At most though we have 3 days if the temps are are 30's and lower.
If we use alternative heat then we would have roughly 8 days, batteries did get very low.

Since we have sun, I have the ev charging, 3 ton/1.5 ton on max, laundry/dryer, two floor heaters all running.
It fluctuates but using between 18-19.8kw and charging is great, cannot wait turn on the other 8 chargers.

Hit over 22kw, still positive.

Just went and did another feels test, ac wires from eg4s are fine, 2/0 going to eg4's just barely detectable to be warm, all quad cables from the batteries are cold. All SCC cables were slightly warm, moving the banks doubled the length to the 12kw but I doubled those to quad and they are just barely warm.

Around this time is the best for charging:

If you want to look at temps in small areas, these small thermal cams from Amazon are awesome. Yeah FLIR makes great hand holds if money is no object, but for a hobbyist this cam is great for getting high/low temp readings.

I keep one at my inverters.

Great thank you for the information I will take a look at that. I have been checking often as I was not sure what to expect now I can really start pushing everything. Its fun to see how much I can do at one time with the new inverters.

To be upfront, I own nicer thermals. This thing is perfect for having in place so I don't have to dig out my work stuff and the temps are spot on.

If you want something one step fancier, look at a Seek Thermal for your cell phone. I have one of those I use for my CNC business. It's perfect for scanning electrical cabinets in the field and small form factor.

Hand held FLIRs are nice, but bulky and typically more expensive. Thermal tech has really come to the masses recently.

Today we had minor rolling clouds and will probably get the truck to 90% for the first time. I have been pushing
the eg4s all day between 10k to 17k and no issues. The 12k has been running from 6200 to 9k all day.
The only time the eg4s fluctuate in voltage is the mini toaster. It's the only device in the house that affects
the eg4s voltage but does not flicker and if its on the 12k the lights flicker. I had the loads up to 16k for for a few hours
and the voltage was completely stable.

They say it will learn the trailer, hooked up the small one on 980lbs. Not tried this yet but It detected it and I input the details. Range was 197, just plugging in the trailer it deducted 100miles. But for my short trip the average trip the kw per mile was the same.

The range loss is exponential with speed because of wind resistance unless the trailer is a big load. Then it will really cost you on hills and any speed or stop and go traffic,
This one is really small and had no affect but it will be interesting to see the range with the tractor, which will be near the max tow weights.

Wife was wanting to drive the truck to much, so I got her some electric transportation. Our road is all gravel so she does get some mud on her but I do not have to share the truck now. I have a cf 800 but thought lets try an electric dirt bike. I have been driving it hard for two weeks with no issues so far. Had to adjust the chain as it was way out, battery missing some connections and one bms monitor not connected but simple stuff. Never use first, anything under 20 is second, anything under 32 or about is 3rd. I have hit 46mph in 4th on the trails but not sure of top speed. Its a 50ah battery and takes about 3 1/2 hours to charge.

46 on the trails is ripping pretty good ?? it has to be weird without the engine noise...?
Awesome setup by the way.
It's a ton of fun, and it's super quite. Tons of torque and to hit 40 it only needs 1/3 throttle. I'm waiting on the CO papers as I think it can be street legal also, its has full blinkers, horn, lights. Zero need for 1st gear unless its a huge hill climb, go almost everywhere in 2nd.
