Not mine, but this guy's...what happened? The video went PRIVATE, not sure why? Maybe some of the comments. They're not going to put these videos up if people shame and blame them. I personally was very interested in solving this puzzle.

I hate to see this.

I leave my 12 volt battle born in my cabin hooked up to a couple of 100 watt panels and a victron smart solar charge controller.

It’s a temp solution. I really can’t afford a fire.

It looks like the battery that failed kept hovering around 17v for some reason and the BMS didn't trigger the OVD. Definitely a very odd issue. Would love to know what BB has to say about this.

So far it looks like a balance issue, he found 17v on one of his batteries and says the BSM (yes that's what he called it) is suppose to shut down.. well it doesn't "shut down" it opens up and that's what causes the voltage spike he's seeing,
That is what I was thinking. The BMS is open and reading the voltage ‘around’ it.

Sounds like the problem had to do with something causing the battery in that position in the string to rise higher than the others with the BMS set very close to the max charge limit, and therefore, especially being in the knee, it spiked up and tripped the BMS. That still doesn't fully explain this catastrophic failure.

I saw theories about excess heat being involved in why that position in the string was prone to spiking up like that - apparently the inverter thermal exhaust is above it.

What does that mean in practical terms. E.g. panel, charge controller, battery. It goes into float. Is that a load dump if it stays in float for weeks? Or do you mean over paneling?

The good news is that Battleborn is "equally" motivated (pun intended) to solve this. I have written Battleborn with minor issues and guess what...twice they have CALLED me! I've always said, it is easy to purchase items, but when things go bad, that is when you find out the difference. Yes, they are more expensive, but try calling China when you have issue like this, not to mention is you have to go to court with a liability case. This is a strange issue of course. My theory is that it IS OPERATOR ERROR somewhere along the way. I mean that fact that it happened with JUST the 3rd one in sequence screams some type of bad connection there...right? Remember, he said when he swaps out batteries into the 3rd position, he gets the same result. When he swaps out the batteries, does he also swap out the cable?

I have 10 of their 24v batteries in series/parallel. I have never seen anything close to what the guy in the video was experiencing. I do disconnect mine every 3-4 months or so and charge them individually as BB recommends. Kind of disturbing that he let the over voltage go as long as he did. If I saw anything like that I'd shut it down until I could figure out what was going on.

... and that's exactly why you're not a smoking pile of ash like he almost was, because you actually invest some effort in your system like I do.

Then he reconnects the remaining batteries and gets the same issue with one battery at 17v and leaves it hooked up! I guess when BattleBorn says they are sending you 8 new batteries you just say screw it.

Found this vid from High Tech Lab on over voltage on your BMS.

Excellent video, thanks for sharing it... it helps validate a couple of my comments here and on the other Battleborn fire thread, these BMS's are not designed to be used as circuit breakers and will only tolerate so much abuse or ignoring of out of top balance situations like he admitted to doing... great video!!!!!

The guy looked and acted to me like he smokes too much weed. One of my first thoughts as I watched the video was "how does a guy like that pay for all that expensive equipment and not know how it works".

Funny, you said out loud what I thought about both of them (especially after seeing more of his videos) but didn't, to each their own... LOL
