I want.to add a shunt to our system. I see that there is an IP65 version and a regular one. Is there any reason not to buy the IP65? I don't need weatherproofing but I would prefer it in case I use it in another role at a later date. What am I missing?

Can I hook it up to our Growatt so that I can see it on the internet?

Also, can the Smartshunt control multiple Mppts or do I need a Smart Battery Sense? Thank you.

IP65 version is useful in a marine or other harsh environment. Within a few $'s of the regular version.

Regular version has places where you connect the wires. The IP65 has wires already connected.

Smartshunt doesn't control anything.

If your system is Growwatt then all the SmartShunt will do for you is report the battery data to the Victron app. If you have other Victron gear then it's a different story as the SmartShunt can integrate to the VE network and provides info to the other Victron devices such as inverters, MPPTs, etc.

Nothing wrong with using the SmartShunt as just a battery monitor. Just don't get all the 'cool' stuff unless the rest is also Victron.

There are various projects for Victron Shunt integration. I have one controlling my EG4 6000xp. Been working great for about two months.

I will look into it. I plan on moving toward Victron equipment as I upgrade, but a GX is a ways off right now. The Growatt will stay as long as it is working as it should, eventually I will install GX and multiple Mppts for the sake of redundancy. We are in year number three with the Growatt and have no regrets.

Nothing in my opinion the lower price wins.

Sure if you do not mind spending the money.

Neither will control. Done correctly will report battery voltage and temperature to the correct MPPT(s) over Bluetooth.

Same price, more robust wins to me.

So Smartsolar Mppts will coordinate over bluetooth without any other equipment? I have a couple of them but not neither are hooked onto same battery so I haven't been able to try it.
