Install and Operation of the SUNGOLD 10KW 48V SPLIT PHASE SOLAR INVERTER

I just read a thread where a GroWatt accidentally exported power to the grid.

Would our inverter export to the grid through the AC-in connection?
Because that's what apparently happened with the GroWatt unit.

I know we can enable export, by default it's disabled.

Edit: the thread:

I didn't read the entire thread yet but some of the SGP units have different prices based on their certifications.

I've been trying to find any people who have actually tried the SG10KHB-48 as it seems like a nice machine and has most of the certifications I'm interested in. The only one it doesn't have is UL1940 for batteries use in Arizona.

Honestly I didn't dig too deep into certifications when I bought my Sungold setup. Perhaps I should have as it may not even pass inspections here in Colorado, but I'm fine for now.

This is what the SG10KHB-48 is certified for, UL1741, UL1741 SA, IEEE 1547, and NEMA 3R.
It would work for my needs but supposedly, to add batteries, it also needs UL9540 in Arizona unless I'm wrong.

It can work batteryless. It also supports lead acid, those don't need UL9540. ;)

I would initially use it batteryless but eventually would have wanted to add lithium rack mount batteries.
Also, if it's not battery approved, how do others go about adding batteries? I suppose you just use an external charge controller or something with the batteries you want? I'm just wondering if anyone knows specifically what is required in AZ.

Wow, they are offering you money... They offered me an extended warranty when was running my TP6048. I didn't take them up on it, obviously. Shady...

Hi all! Special thanks to @Kenny_ for starting this log.

I have read all 94 pages today, arrived a lil late to the party but had the same issues you all had and learned a lot.

My set up: SPI-10K-U (same as ASF48100U200-H) paired with 20 Canadian 560W panels and 51.2V 100Ah LifePO4 batt . Happy to say it can generate 11Kw around noon and I have been blessed with 60Kwh days. My setup exports to the grid so it "should" be at max power generation always except for situations I dont understand.

I agree with @42OhmsPA that you have to read the manual several times to understand the lil nuances eventho it is far from being precise.

What brought me here is something similar to @Lighthouse Beacon experienced. My inverter doesnt want to go back to bypass mode after a power outage, therefore stops exporting excess PW power until I reboot it manually. I'll try setting 03 set to APL and see if that works, I was blaming the battery settings this whole time.

My 2 cents from what I remember reading:

wifi dongle: it doesnt connect to "the server" for whatever reason with some wifi access points but it does with others. In my case, the IPv6 wifi network wont connect, but it does with a basic wifi access point.

Parallel Inverter: I just bought one (SPI-10k-UP) and it is on its way by sea from CN. Same inverter with parallel functionality, let's see how that goes paired with a 30kw battery array also on that ship.

Thanks to you all!

Excellent!!! Thanks for posting will be very interested in your take on the SPI 10k UP!

one thing my Mr. Coffee spikes/flickers (I do see a slight flicker in my office overhead led) remind me to do is to ask Alexa to "Turn Mr. Coffee Off!"

LOL

I just got in 4 of the inverters. 2 for my house and two for my son's. I'm stepping up from two of the sp6548s in each house. Waiting on the arrival of SA box and a couple terminal blocks to facilitate the parallel setup before getting started. I have a 51kw battery pack and 36 405w panels... Batteries all running the new JK BMSs. Looks like I may get started on my parallel setup before you and will take notes on any issues or best practices along the way that I'll share here.

@Kenny_ for your connection to SA I think I read on one post somewhere that you use the USB cable... Is that right?
Yes, USB cable between the Raspberry Pi to the Inverter.... a 'special' cable between the Raspberry Pi to my batteries RS232 Port..much more above...or just ask and I'll try to find the answer..

Hi all, I just installed the sungold 10KW hybrid inverter. Does anyone know how to find and install the computer software to change settings by computer? Thanks for the help. The manual says to go to SRNE but I can't find the file there.

Did you get this one? SG10KHB-48? I'm really curious about it. I've been asking in several posts in these forums and not getting much luck for feedback on this specific unit.

Thanks I got the batteries reporting this morning...I have 10 ea 100ah batteries running the JKBMS all reporting in the SA now. I used an old USB cable for my Amazon stick to connect my current sp6548s to the SA box this morning too... Still have to get some 6 gauge to be ready to do the swap...

I downloaded it last week for Windows... Is that what you want...SGP support said they recommend using the inverter interface... The app is called iPower-nt.

Here you'll get the link. I recommend reading the thread.

Learnings from APL and UPS mode aside of what is written in the manual:

UPS mode: the inverter will not connect back to the grid (hybrid) after a power outage, supposedly bc grid power is "dirty" however rebooting the inverter will reconnect with no problem. PV and batt will keep the loads running but no export to the grid.

APL mode: something triggered it to do the opposite, it wont connect back to PV power (hybrid) for whatever reason and sticked to bypass mode. With full battery and no way to export energy, PV generation will fall to 0. In this case, not even rebooting worked but changing to UPS mode did bring it back to normal.

I dont know yet what triggers UPS mode not wanting grid power and APL mode not wanting PV power. If someone has an idea... please share
