Massive Texas power outage

Does Costco sell solar generators? Seems like good way to get many introduced to solar..

Have not seen a solar generator at Costco, but mine has folks hawking installing PV panels on your house in the isles.

A sad thing with people knee jerk buying a generator is the handful of deaths that will result cause of mproper use and lack of knowledge. Granted mandatory CO monitoring and shutdowns does help but you know someone’s going to run it in their garage or make a suicide cord into their drier outlet and the statistics will rise.

Granted those heat index numbers have their own numbers.

By all accounts the units with carbon monoxide detectors are extremely sensitive, I.e they will trigger outdoors if the wind blows exhaust the wrong way.

At least it's not directly solar related.

They are commonly disconnected. The Harbor Freight ones frequently flake out. Disconnecting is pretty much standard practice if you need your generator to run reliably. My son in law runs a food truck with a 13,000 watt Duromax. Its been fine.

It’s become increasingly clear that houston is unable to provide basic services.

It’s officially a shit-hole city. I say this s as a 6th generation Texan.

Walking around near the astrodome at 130 am to cool off. Not all that great a neighborhood. Seems empty as people have abandoned their homes.

I'm always curious as to why us as Westerners seems to congregate in the most inhospitable parts of the world many Americans live on fault lines, near super volcanoes and hurricane highways. Britain is a perfect climate for frogs and almost nothing else, yet both the US and UK seem to be fine with that. Doesn't mean I don't feel sorry for you Texans ATM but history has shown especially for Britain were very adept at colonization why not just move the whole country to the south of France and live in comfort the french will just run away like they historically always have😏

War, immigration, opportunity, ports, resources. Doing the best you can with what you have.

Texas was always pretty lean and rough place to live.

I bet all the CenterPoint executives have backup systems at their homes.
A few years ago, an electrician was telling me about installing a whole house generator for a local electric company exec. He was laughing because the exec wanted to make sure that it was completely out of site.
I assume you meant to write sight...

Because out of site would incur massive wiring.

I hope they don't think they are gonna run those generators off them lil propane tanks for more than 15 mins…
I successfully ran mine for several hours in WINTER 10F temps...
The little tanks work great on these generators. In winter, i situated the exhaust to blow on the tank to keep it warm while running.
It powered my 4 oil heaters... and all my appliances two days... had three tanks to swap between.

Surely Costco could go to their suppliers and tell them "get me a system like a Bluetti XXX for under $XXX" and have it happen. They have a lot of clout.

The Chinese made solar generators like Bluetti are already being sold for less than mfg cost. It is literally dumping stuff on the US market to wipe out the infrastructure and people that know how to build stuff.

A perfect example is a place like Alte store going under and now being partially brought back to life by an investor.
