Can any one help me on a Inverter install on my motor home, The transfer switch(Progressive Dynamics Generator Transfer Relay)is set up for shore & Gen power. I can't find a Diagram for adding an Inverter with shore and Generator. Any help would great!!

Thanks S

Still need the details of the automatic transfer switch.

Mobile ( Motor Home ) I don't know what you mean about the switch?
You want to switch between 3 inputs with one automatic transfer switch.
This means that the switch has to support 3 inputs.
Most only support 2.
An alternative is to plug the generator into the shore power inlet when you want to use the generator.
You would then be able to achieve your goal with a 2 input switch.
Then we just need to talk about neutral ground bond.

Which one of these is it?

That was my problem, I didn't know there wasn't such a switch. Could I just run the shore power and the Gen to a switch that went to the transfer Box an just switch between the 2 ? What about neutral bond?

There may well be a discrete three way transfer switch.
I know the samlex evo is effectively 3 way.

Because your inverter will not be integrated.

What about neutral bond?
neutral and ground need to be bonded in exactly one place.
When you are using shore power that bond will be upstream of the pedestal and beyond your control.
When you are using the generator or inverter the bond needs to be within your domain.
So the neutral ground bond needs to be switchable.
You have still not answered all of my questions.
Please do me that courtesy.
Reread the thread if necessary.

It is probably a 2 way as Joey said, it's not integrated especially from the manufacturer. Easiest way to get that going is dedicated outlets just for the inverter. I looked into a switch after the switch type of deal but I kept running into feeding the converter and going into the power loop. Converter to battery to inverter to converter etc.

What I was thinking was the shore power and gen power ran into a 3 way drum switch and from that switch you could select shore or gen power ran into the transfer switch to the shore power terminals , would that not be 1 in and 2 out (the inverter and panel )?

Thanks for the reply

When I bought my motorhome it came with a generator and shore power. A transfer switch was installed by the manufacturer. This is a 2 in and 1 out system that I have. This ensures only 1 source of power is running at a time. You have to find your transfer switch and get the part number so you can google it to get the exact specs if you do not have the manual. If its a 2 in 1 out model you still have a few options. The easiest and cheapest as I mentioned before is outlets directly connected to inverter. That is my setup. 2 outlets plugged directly to the inverter.

If it is not UL compliant you will be out of luck. I bought a 3K inverter that is great as an inverter ,but CANNOT tie into a rv electrical system due to the ground not being able to be bonded to neutral. This fact should really be a sticky at the top of the inverter section.

the transfer switch is a 2 in 1 out Progressive Dynamics s5100. ( came in the RV)It's the same as GO POWER TS-30 It's made by P D also. At first I intended to set it up like you have but thought it would be nice if I could power all the 120 outlets. I thought I could buy a switch that was 3in1out. but the more I searched I just could not find anything! So I just thought if I ran the shore power and the Gen to a selector switch I could manually select Shore or Gen and run to the Power terminals of the automatic selector switch it would not know the difference

Thanks

I was in the same boat. A 3 to 1 switch is tough to find. I found a few but would not work in my application. The other option is an inverter/charger which can get expensive. I have seen videos on adding a sub panel to do this but I don't want my outlets on battery all the time.

Looks like I'll have to go with a couple of outlets just for the Inverter. I know the bigger $ Motor Homes have an Inverter, They've got some way of switching from shore,Gen,and Inverter!
