Jakiper Customer Service

Jakiper just had me remove the top cover and unplug a red wire coming from the positive terminal. It shuts down the entire battery/BMS. After 10 seconds plug it back in and it should be reset. It goes immediately back into alarm mode. At least I got the alarm shut off.

Still going back and forth with Jakiper.

Great that you actually had some customer service from them, but to me if the battery has that system the antidote and instructions re the alarm should be included.
Those batteries are out of consideration for me now.
My sprinter is a 4x4, what if I go up or down a 60% incline?
Hey it could happen
?

I read through the entire manual and did an internet search. The RST button does not react. Had it depressed for over a minute with no success. Tried it with the breaker on and off. I can’t even turn the battery off. The display menu still works. I can go through everything and look. It shows 0 voltage everywhere no matter what I do. With the breaker on I am getting 15.72V at the terminals and the battery is fully charged. I can tell you that no carrier is going to accept a loud beeping package.

I just slid in my second Jakiper battery, all is ok with it. By the way, the Signature Solar 6 slot rack is truly awesome and well built. No regrets buying it, only wish it had a top cover and door. Too much exposed danger and risk of things falling in on top.
Maybe it was alarmed that it was cohabitating with 2 EG4 LifePower4 batteries.

The alarm can be deactivated so that it does not go off. For some reason mine went active when I turned the battery on. I checked the other battery, the alarm is not on.

OK it is official now, I regret buying the Jakiper batteries. Customer Service is useless. The answers you get are not clear, and you have to guess at what they are trying to have you do.

Now the answer is, I have to have this cable that you cannot order (Backlog), and my battery in the meantime is a 100lb paperweight. My experience through this whole process of ordering, the batteries getting lost, alarms locking the battery down, lack of serious customer service is just not worth the money.

Just my opinion, stay away from Jakiper. If you need server rack batteries, get them from Signature Solar.

Update: Jakiper is now sending me the necessary cable to clear the alarm and deactivate it so that the alarm will not trip in the future. I hope it arrives sometome soon so I can get this up and running.

I have one of the Jakipers in operation as of last night. The Signature Solar 6 slot rack allows for two EG4's and two Jakipers. with room left over for maybe one more EG4. I made the changes to the Vicron Quattro's configuration software to reflect the 300Ah capacity and all is running and playing well together so far.

Once I get the alarm cleared on the second Jakiper, I will get it integrated with my battery bank, change my Victron config and start some more testing. I will also check and see how the EG4's and Jakiper's comm's work together and let everyone know.

At this point in time, I’ve decided to go with Fed Ex, insured, signature required for expensive items. More expensive but more accountability. Even then, I’ve come home to a large stack of boxes outside my door and “signature not required” on the electronic receipt.

Glad you got your batteries.

WARNING for all Jakiper battery owners:

Watch the video above to check and see how to activate the alarm for your Jakiper battery. Once you turn on the battery after unpackaging, the system is active and if by chance your alarm is activated and you tilt your battery between 40 and 60 degrees, it will set off the alarm. The video shows how to activate the alarm. You have to get to the T-Sensor (Tilt-Sensor) menu and press and hold "Enter" to activate it. Don't do it! If you do and your alarm is triggered, you will need a special cable and software to reset the alarm, and dectivate it. While the battery is in alarm, the BMS shuts off and the battery is useless until an alarm reset takes place. I did not activate mine, it was active when I turned on the battery at the RST button.

Just an added bonus, if you do set off the alarm, open the top lid, and there is a thin red wire connected to the positive terminal. There may be black electrical tape around the connector in the middle of the wire, so just remove the tape and unplug the wire at that connector. That will kill the power to the BMS and shut off the alarm as it is VERY loud.

Spread the word to have others avoid what I am going through.

IMHO, worth a short but powerful post in https://diysolarforum.com/forums/general-battery-discussion.72/ with subject "JAKIPER BATTERY WARNING!" with a link back to this thread.

While my trials are nowhere near as severe as those faced by @Repro I'll add to the "poor customer service" experience stories (hopefully this isn't considered a hi-jacking, if so feel free to chastise me viciously) with my experiences trying to connect the RS232 communications to my Win-7 computer. I've a standard USB to DB9 FTDI chipped serial cable, and I'm bright enough to follow a pinnout diagram so long as you draw it in crayon so when after a couple weeks I couldn't get the damned thing to connect I reached out to Jakiper.

Their advice. Here's a link to our $40.00 cable on Amazon, but it won't be available to March 1, 2022. I'm generally a patient guy, but that just rubs me wrong. A $1500 battery that they advertise with RS232 communications, and no mention of the need for a custom cable anywhere, even in the manual, then this.

From Jaikiper
Which cable you are using? Below is the correct link for the cable.

I've also confirmed that I've activated, but thankfully not triggered the anti-theft device. If you click enter on the innocently labeled "System Settings" menu that's all it takes. I reached out to them on how to deactivate it, but based on the comments above I expect they'll tell me to buy the stinking cable

Stay away, stay far away.

I will confirm your suspicion, now that you have activated the alarm, it can only be deactivated using the cable and their software.

Whatever you do, do not tilt your battery or you risk setting it off, and then the battery is useless till you have the cable.

Update:
I ordered the batteries the day they were available (Dec 4, 2021), They were sent out, got lost, then found, and arrived to me on Jan 24, 2022. I Unpacked them and let them stand for over 24 hours to acclimate. I activated the batteries and connected them one at a time to my charger. I did a capacity test for each battery with approx. 103Ah each. I then connected them to my system just to let them run a couple of days and check their performance. Two days later, I got my 6 slot battery rack and installed my batteries with one of the Jakipers alarming and rendered useless.

Today, I got a cable to do the reset of the alarm. Upon opening a connection, my battery G-Sensor was not even activated. So why is my battery in alarm? I clicked on "Disable G-Sensor" several times as instructed. I followed the directions on resetting the alarm, I got a "Operate Fail" and the alarm persisted. I tried over and over again exactly like the video and instructions stated. I tried resets with the RST, no luck in shutting it off. I then decided to try clicking on the "Unlock Protect" button, I instantly got an "Operate Successful", and the alarm shut off. The battery reset itself and started.

My battery is now in operation and it is running along side of my other Jakiper and two Signature Solar batteries. After all of this, Jakiper did come through and got the cable to me. I still feel that Jakiper needs to do MUCH MUCH more on the customer service side. The language barrier is difficult, and I understand language barriers very well having myself lived in Germany for 26 years. All that said, there are a lot of misunderstandings in the conversations per email, and it is very frustrating. Even the instructions for resetting the alarm did not work like they instructed.

I have been burnt trying out new products, and the frustrations with the Jakiper made it clear to me, If it is new, wait it out until all the problems are worked out. Signature Solar had growing pains, but stuck it out and they are getting much better. Jakiper has a long way to go before I will buy anything from them again.

I got my new battery rack today, and while sliding in one of my new Jakiper batteries, it went into alarm with a steady Red LED and non stop beeping. I went through the manual, and the solid red LED means repair needed. There is no way to turn off the very loud beeper, reset is not possible, so this one is going back. I already notified Jakiper, the battery is going into its original box and it is going into the shed outside until it can be shipped. I am curious how Jakiper handles this? The beeping is making us crazy. Will post what Jakiper replies to me. What a bummer.
Here's a diy fix I posted. https://www.facebook.com/groups/jakiperbattery/permalink/429059952333274/?app=fbl

The alarm is set to trigger on purpose forcing you to buy a $40 cable that costs 1 dollar to make. cut a usb cable and a rj11 phone jack and splice them together. So where is the effing software, no link for it on the ripoff cable purchase page. I am furious. Someone drop the link to the software plez! What are the chances windows wont auto-install the driver ....
the system has been made this way to prevent theft...

sjeez

I feel, and felt your pain. Made my own cable based on that FB post. You will need a phone cord with four leads, a db9 connector and an RS232 to USB cable to do so. I will be happy to walk you through it if you wish

Finally got my battery completely functional again. Like others here, I managed to trigger the anti-theft mis-feature, effectively bricking the battery. Symptoms include:
- alarm light on and beep once/second
- in the Analog Info submenu temperatures all show -40C
- in Sys Settings, it says T-SENSOR OPEN.

The fix, as others here have noted, is to use a special cable to connect a Windows PC USB port to the battery RS232 port and run software available from Jakiper. That's pretty well documented.
Jakiper sells that cable, but anyone can make one with locally available parts. I'll give more detail if requested, but here's a quick overview:

You'll need:

1. USB to RS-232 adapter from Best Buy. $19.99
2. Standard telephone cord. Make sure it has 4 conductors. Some only have two.
3. RS-232 cable with DB-9 connectors. You can skip this if you're willing to cut the DB-9 connector off the new USB to RS 232 adapter.

Cut off one end of the phone cord, cut off a couple of inches of the outer insulation and very carefully strip the ends of the wires.
Do the same with the RS-232 cable, keeping the end that plugs into the USB adapter.
You'll have to figure out which wire connects to which pin on the DB-9. No doubt you have a meter if you're doing this stuff.
I believe wire color codes are standard for the phone jack. Connect wires as follows. Solder them, twist them together, whatever. In DB9 to phone wire:

Pin 2 to red
Pin 3 to green
Pin 5 to black and yellow

After that just follow the instructions included with the Jakiper Software.IMG_20220127_083212_364~2.jpgIMG_20220127_084448_401~3.jpgIMG_20220127_083844_449~2.jpg

Have you got any compensation for you troubles???? Don't these company's give a crap. They just lost my sale after reading this.

No compensation, actually didn't expect it. My biggest problem through all of this was the support responses when I tried to find out where my batteries were. The freight company was useless bouncing me back and forth between offices getting nowhere. Jakiper's only response for each of my inquiries was "We sent the batteries". After Will Prowse got involved, they actually did their job. The alarm was another issue. They did respond explaining what the issue was along with links on how to resolve the issue. After several angry emails, they ended up sending me the cable which did take care of the alarm.

I was unaware that more people were having alarm issues. After all of this, I really wish I had bought the two additional batteries from Signature Solar. Just my opinion.

Well I almost bought these batteries. Glad I waited. I bought five from signature solar had them in a week even with a bad snow storm.
