Hey folks! Nice to find this forum, and Will seems like he knows what he is talking about.

I am in a situation where I have an existing 4.2kw solar array, hooked up to a Magnum MS4448PAE, Outback FlexMax 80 controller and a 48v FLA battery bank. This system has been adequate, but its time to upgrade my storage, and I have been looking at Lion.

I have checked out the 3 options Will has on his battery page, namely the 48v 100ah EG4LL, the Trophy Model 48V110C-1, and the 100ah 48v SOK Server Rack Battery.

1) Are these models all basically plug and play?
2) Would they work with my 9 year old Magnum MS4448PAE?
3) Anything in particular I need to look out for?
4) Are there other popular brands/models out there that might fit my need that are as simple as possible to swap over to?

Thanks!

You might want to look here as well “plug and play “ has different meaning to some.

Thanks for the replies!

Is there someplace that has decent quality 48v Lion chargers? The only one I have seen is EG4's and they are out of stock. Elsewhere I have only seen 12v and 24v chargers.

The 48V/100AH Pack can only take a Maximum of 50A Charge for 2 hours from Dead Zero SOC 40.0V / 2.500Vpc (Volts per cell).
Also the Charging of LFP is simple 2-Stage. Bulk CC (Constant Current) to 90% Capacity then Float (Constant Voltage Variable Current) for the balance 10% to your Designated 100% SOC.

- You have good Equipment that is used by many with LFP without issues in general. If there is nothing wrong with it don't replace it.
- Unlike Lead Acid (Brute Force Tech) ALL Lithium Batteries are quite sensitive, to the Millivolt & Milliamps in fact and therefore you have to be very aware of the Voltage/Amperage Drops and they must be accounted for when setting up YOUR Charge & Discharge profiles and Cutoff points.
* NO TWO SYSTEMS ARE THE SAME *

Good Luck, Hope it Helps.

Thanks Steve. Tips like these are exactly what I was looking for. :)

The sensitivity of the Lion batteries has me concerned, and I'm quickly learning about these issues. Even at their current prices, a full bank of roughly 28Kwh is no small chunk of change (for me at least). But if I can save by using my existing equipment... and not damage or destroy the Lion batteries, that would be ideal!

This is in my Signature which apparently many members cannot see signatures so I will post it directly. This is for Assembling packs but also charging info and charts with voltage settings and more. You will find several answers in it and it's always good to understand "what's in the box" as it were. Luyuan Tech Basic Lifepo4 Assembly Guide Download the PDF and have a good gander at it. There is also this link that will answer other items I previously mentioned. Calibrating Voltage of your system to ensure Optimal Operations. SCC, Inverter/Charger, voltage matching.
