Buying from Alibaba

I ordered mine shipping by sea, to Montreal port, they are leaving on the 08/03 will be in Montreal 05/04, and I will pick up. I'm in Kemptville Ontario. Duties and custom are not included in sea freight charge.
Take a sedative with you when you go to pick them up and pay the Hostage Fees. Maybe one before & one after and plan a consolation "make me feel better" visit and get a fresh Beaver Tail or Two to snack on as a comfort food. BTW: Check out Rob Beckers @ Solacity on Van Burren Rd for extras & goodies, great folks to deal with, been doing business with Rob since 2015.

TO THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW> Beaver Tails is a very serious Pastry Treat, not ACTUAL Beaver Tails !

I'll just chime in here... I got my 16 Cells from XUBA delivered yesterday. Taxes, Duties etc were all included and the four boxes (4 cells per) were delivered without issues. I believe that this is NOT UNIVERSAL ! USA, Canada, UK and apparently most EU Nations this can be included ALWAYS VERIFY IT otherwise you could be faced with an unpleasant TAX Bill and I have yet to meet anyone who likes such a surprise.
Happy for you, you've got your cells. I was shopping for cells at the same time you did and chosen to ship by sea, was told by Amy, the order had sail on the 27/02, and then confirm the shipping a week later to find out it's still not shipped out yet. So I will wait patiently. By the way this was Amy's first time shipping by sea.

Shipping by Sea is quite a different animal altogether, because it's a matter of shipping container space allocation, as none are ever shipped empty and it adds complications. Actually there are some videos on YT related to just this subject and the pros/cons/quirks & foibles. I did go with UPS Air Express so it cost more obviously but I need to have this segment of the project done by the time we get to thaw out and see grass... which is still 2 metres under the surface... ugh....

MORE in relation to shipping om china, drop shipments and more... several vid's addressing the issues.

I bought all my solar system from Rob, I'm two km from the store, sea freight is not all that bad, you hire a broker on line and they custom clear your shipment and could even arrange for delivery to your door. I should save 500$-1000$. On the order of 32 cells like yours. The only problem I had, this is my first order experience, and was depending on Amy, for the process and she didn't tell me till after a lot of frustration, that it was her first time also. Anyways all is good.

Hi Steve S
Is it better to order and ship to Canada or US cost wise duties, taxes etc. I'm going to the US in a week for a week have it shipped to ups Ogdensburg NY,Then declare goods to follow when i come back to maybe save some money. Then go back to Ogdensburg when shipment arrives. I may have to order it in the US to US address, as opposed to ordering in Canada to US address. Maybe the cost of gas to go back, bridge toll, ups cost etc.

So FEDEX just showed up with our shipment from NIKKI and from AMY ...

COOL ! So now we want photo's reviews, tests and whatever you can muster. Might be good to start a separate thread & put a Link to it in here.

My cells have thawed for 24 hours now but unfortunately my charger hasn't arrived yet, hoping on Monday.

To order through Alibaba, goto the link, select the number of cells you want and it will give you an ESTIMATE for shipping as well. Then pick the Contact Vendor which will open a message window, There ask Amy to VERIFY that you are ordering X# of cells and want them shipped to your City/State/ZIP Code (if I USA). Tell her your coming from DIYSolarForum as well and also how many Bus Bars you will want, they will toss them in with the bolt kit too. She will respond with the quotation and figures. Alibaba does not take PayPal, so you'll have to use Visa, MasterCard or TT etc... now hard.

Taxes / Duties are included for US, Canada & UK, not sure about elsewhere. Anyways, further discussion & for more info for you, best look in my XUBA thread, link in my signature.

BEFORE BUYING / ORDERING !
Look at the various offers from XUBA, I showed you the 105AH for $35.19 each.
They have 280AH for $84.79/Piece, 152AH for $44.00/Piece
Hi Steve

Just requested a quote for (8) 3.2 152ah, Will need help on what bms to order after that. one that easy to set and use.

KenDan I had the very same question for Nikkie and she assured me the that it was door to door delivery to my residence on the East Coast for the amount that I paid so I went with it.
When did you place your order? Did you have your batteries shipped by air or sea? I'm about ready to give up. To many uncertainties - too many ways for a beginner to get screwed. Alibaba won't accept my credit card anyway, and the credit card rejection appeal system is non-functional.

I think I'll just give-up and order from AliExpress. Much more more expensive, but every transaction I've made over the years has been simple with no surprises.

I ordered mine Feb 19th by Capital One credit card, ghostwriter ordered hers (2) orders Feb 17th and Feb 18th and she just received both her orders today.

Yes,dealing with Chinese companies you need to be aware that there are "Always" surprises.
Sometimes small, a Nikkii why suddenly is Amy

Sometimes huge, like my mppt inverter who was different model and was defective
(I found out after installation, it charged my 48v lead acid array with 78v.. $ 4.500,- on batteries waised... now 1000kg old lead)

Dealing with "respectable companies" like Victron (the Netherlands) ain't guarantee also.
Other member on this forum lost 14.000 on batteries due "Specialist" problems.

For me I ordered the 152Ah, and payed via bank account.
Yes, I take a risk.
After the loss on the lead-acid, I don't have much other options.
I needed cheap and good.

For sure, I did my homework on this seller!!

The 152Ah are new and look like A grade. Capacity test, I'm waiting for my delayed tester.
My test from 4x 3.3 volts, 70% full with simple 12v 100w lightbulb went OK (should be about 1400w)
10 hours without issues. Then it was bed time. I didn't want to go below 2.5v
they are now recharging.

Hi Steve Order 8 cell's 152ah from the same supplier XUBA on March 12 got all the way to the shipper, now asking for more money because of covid-19 back log,as well they say I have a remote address (Limoges on) they want $45us just for that, $60us for back log total $105us plus $45cd at the bank for T/T . Did you have remote address problem, I live 5 miles out of the city limits, Vars is in the city. They say if I wait for back log to slow down i don't have to pay $60us for that, but how long do I wait??

Whether or not you need to pay tax/import duties etc. all depends on the incoterms under which your shipment was made, and does not matter if this is by sea or air.

Please check: http://www.logistiikanmaailma.fi/en/contracts/terms-of-delivery/incoterms-2020/

For no surprises, insist on DDP. Yes, it will cost more, but that's because all the hassle, taxes, customs, etc. are dealt with for you and you get your goods delivered to your door.

Hi this is my shipping contract

Then it is easy.
You don't need to pay any extra.

If they want extra money, they need to contact the sender.

Many companies are hit hard by Corona, and not all of them react in the correct way.

Some try to take advantage of the parcels that still are there.

You do not need to pay anything.
If they don't agree, they can send it back on their costs to China....
(What would be a lot more)

Also...
Pay additional for fast delivery??
Lol

They have nothing else to do as there is huge decline in number of parcels...

They just try to rip you off.

Please contact Xuba and ask who the delivery company in your country would be.
(Often UPS) contact UPS HQ and tell them that their branch office asks additional money to deliver within agreed time schedule...

(Or just ask them for the phone number or their HQ...
Probably that is enough to ensure fast delivery)

Yeah, that's just nonsense. You agreed on the price in contract, it's shipped DDP, it's not up to you to pay any of those unforeseen circumstances; it's their responsibility. I would contact the local delivery company, tell them it's shipped under DDP terms and if something is missing or needs more money they can contact the seller. If this was for my company I would have my lawyer do it and make sure they deliver it faster than you can say 'incoterms'.

Update
Xuba paid the extra to switch to UPS, I'll pay more Duty and Taxes when it shows up at my door:(:(

This doesn't sound right at all. I know Corona is impacting a lot, but that's part of why they have insurance etc. DDP is from their place to yours, all expenses paid for. If they are back-tracking on that because of unforeseen problems, that still shouldn't become your problem. Contract says DDP, and that's what you paid for. I can understand them doing that before shipping and just cancel, but not when the goods are already in transit. However since you (correct if I'm wrong) agreed to the new terms, there is nothing much you can do anymore.
