Rock solid, no bells, 48 volt inverter

I think I have my off grid charge controller and battery stuff covered. Ultimately, 10 or so SOK rack batteries and a Victron Smart Solar RS 450/200 (4 mppt trackers). Or maybe a midnite controller. Either way, lots of panels and plenty of juice to charge up a dead bank and run my little 2000 watt life at the same time. Mostly air con load. Strictly string inverters for this analysis. No grid forming needed. No grid tie needed. Edit-120 volt 60 hertz pure sine output.

I’m looking for little dead simple 48 volt inverters. Why are they mostly charger/inverters (aka converters/inverters)? And does it matter?

I see that Aimes has a 48 volt at currentconnected.com but it doesn’t appear to be in stock.

Magnum has some good looking units and a good rep, but Arizona Wind and Solar sold out. That probably tells me someting.

Outback has some units. But hear some mixed reviews.

I hate to throw out the term military grade but maybe that’s what I’m after.

A little, 48 volt, american made?, 3000-6000 watt low frequency inverter. No more. Heavy and reliable. Not even going to challenge it with surge loads.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I don't think that a 48v American made inverter exists. But, Aims is high quality. I think that I seen one in the Marketplace, recently.

If you want super heavy duty - simple inverter, Australian made LAtronics is worth a look.

Schneider SW4048 is a solid product, though it does come with a disclaimer that the full rated power is not delivered if only powering 120V loads. May be worth looking at.

I was going to suggest Schneider as well, with the disclaimer they aren't the most user friendly and their TS support is not well regarded. Other than that, the product is rock solid from everything I've read and seen. Magnum tends to be well regarded too, although typically not cheap.

Sounds like you don't plan any heavy use
Not tier 1 but I found my Eco Worthy 24v inverter to be dependable going on 2 years now (in constant use ~ 24/7)
- for the price of the inverters already mentioned you could buy 3 Eco Worthy 48v inverters and be sure of a backup for years to come

I hear that Schneider sells good solid inverter/chargers. I will be looking at those as well as the Magnum next time around.

I am using the Samlex EVO-2224-Inverter-Charger and it has been good solid low frequency inverter/charger. Samlex manuals are very well written with a lot of detail. There is also a Samlex-EVO-4248SP that is 120/240 split phase. Might be my next purchase.

Need the Samlex EVO-RC-PLUS Remote Control to program it.

Exeltech is made in Texas. I have not used their products yet but I have only nice things to say about the company and the people that work there. I came into possession of two non-working 48v 1100 watt XP series inverters by way of a purchase at a famous online auction site. I've been communicating with Exeltech tech support / customer service by e-mail and phone to get them repaired. The units I ended up with were made in 1999 - 2000 and they offer a repair service for $100 + shipping. The MX series can be expanded to support higher wattages. None of these have a built in charger which you can view as a good or bad depending on what you are looking for.

Then there are the outback inverters the VFXR3648A is a 3.6 kw 48v inverter that claims to be made in the usa.

The Magnum inverters are also USA made but seem to be on backorder everywhere.

The samlex 48v inverter charger was not on the market when I contacted them but the 48v 1500w inverter they sell is made in Taiwan according to the tech support guy that responded to my inquiry.

I have a dead magnum here, and magnum doesn't even bother to respond to inquiries about where I can get it fixed. People who think Magnum is top tier have just never had an issue with it yet.

I recently sent a reminder to NAWS (arizona wind and solar) that the inverter they sold me ended up having zero after sales support and suggested they drop magnum if they want to keep selling supported equipment.

Here is one thought - since you have the Victron mppt - think about a Victron inverter. Having all major stuff Victron- let’s you use a GX and give you lots of info in the same place. Look up a Cerbo (you could use that or roll your own with a Pi).
I'm a huge fan of the Victron Multiplus II 48/3000VA. I have the raspberrypi instead of cerbogx--and Victron's online monitoring offering is bleeding edge. The charts use grafana for example which is the industry leader at this point.

The only drawback from my viewpoint is that now I need to get a Victron MPPT because their canned charts don't work as nicely unless you're using their solar charge controller. But it's not a big deal, VRM is still really nice without.

Great info. Good to know about Magnum customer support. They were near the top of the list.

The Exceltech looks like a winner. Both in terms of quality and they are close enough to drive.

This is impressive:
