diy solar

Very new to solar but started purchasing items, not sure of the final specs of the whole system.

The first year I realized I needed to double the panels, doubled them in the spring then added even more the next year. I keep thinking this would be enough but it never is. I have a few more left over to install but waiting till summer to redo a few of the arrays. But I will say the pellet stove has been a complete success. Not every seeing one in use I was unsure of the performance and if it would work. We have not used the heat once upstairs this year and still have littler more than 1/3 of a pallet left.
I hear ya. We doubled our array and still not enough for December.

Spring summer and fall are going to be crazy.
We will literally have power to burn.

Couple of people tossed around the idea of a giant battery in summer to hold you through winter.
I might give it some more thought.
Something bigger but not sure what’s feasible.

That’s great the pellet stove is working out for you.
I just don’t really have a place to put one or I would try it.

I had to get creative for ours I did not a permanent installation. I wanted to see if it would indeed keep the upstairs' warm. I used two concrete boards and bunch right angled steel to build a frame for the exhaust out the front window. True to what I read the exhaust does not get that hot. Used the duravent installation kit which provides double insulate pipes and insulated steel frame that is put into the cement board. Even after running all night the cement board is barely warm. Since the exhaust pipes are so short its very easy to clean and vacuum out the drop pipe.

Bank 2 was at 38% this morning, Bank 1 was 47%, partly cloudy but charge rate is decent.

There was a large jump in usage from the previous days, usage was only laundry and ev charging. But the clouds moved back in heavily after 3:00 pm and I had to stop charging the bolt it did get to 189m.

This morning bank 1 was 45%, 36% bank 2. Very dark clouds with shorts full sun, average watts has been between 6-8kw. Did catch one short full sun and saw 28,352w coming into the banks which is a new record since the are so low.

Double the average charge rate for this time of day, still over 2 hours from peak rates.

I caught this around 2:30 pm it had been in use for over a year. The cable was hot near the input only and the breaker. The cable exiting the breaker to the busbar was just fine. Replaced with the same breaker new cable same awg, nothing got warm. Have 8 others that see move amps and no issues. But we had been at 24kw+ for over 3 hours due to how low the batteries were which is pushing everything.

Still a ways off from full charge.

What gauge?
Stranded?

I've seen stranded especially get loose. I now wiggle the wire so it rotates in the lug while continuing to torque or tighten until it stops settling.

Was supposed to be cloudy today but plenty of sunlight and finally got the bolt fully charged, running the main hvac heat plus a $100 25k btu heat as well and lots of laundry.

Yup today was another decent day. Got 65 kWH today.
Battery looking almost decent now..
Today is super dense dark clouds with the sun hitting full for a few seconds than dark again.
30,606w to 5,211w in under a minute, going test the breaker further then pull apart to see
what occurred with post pictures of the internals. Like Hedges I thought it had loosened but was
very tight and would like to understand the problem.

Had to take bank 2 offline and go over to grid, tried moving another SCC to it but was not enough. No load on bank 2 the charge rate is between 1-4 amps. Even during noon the sccs are flipping on and off as the past 4 days the clouds have been so dense. Driveway Gate is completely discharged again and debating on adding a 24v lithium which would be an extreme upgrade over the two motorcycle batteries in series I'm using.

We have had 3 days of rain with 4 more predicted.
