Reset country code on Growatt SPH 5000 invertor

My installer was a cowboy and is now out of business. I plan to check and maybe reset the Country Code on my SPH 5000 invertor. I have found from this forum that the necessary 'secret code (key password)' to access the appropriate menu is 1111, and as I'm in the UK plan to change the code (if...

Growatt SPH and Power import control from grid

I know this is a long dead thread but AFAIK you just need to set the RS485 address to correspond with the invertor's address, and an 'ordinary' SDM230 should work. I've been using mine for months and balance is good - normally 0 to 20w exported from the battery (down from 100 to even 200 with...

Limit state of charge of GBLI 6532

Hi, thanks for the reply. However, I deliberately want to stop the inverter charging the two Chinese batteries, as they do not communicate with the invertor. The GBLI 6532 battery talks to the invertor, but the Chinese batteries are not connected and they reach full charge before the GBLI 6532...

Limit state of charge of GBLI 6532

Hi, I have a SPH 5000 hybrid inverter, GBLI 6532 battery (6 kWh) and have added two 'Chinese' 3.5 kWh batteries myself - thus doubling the storage capacity of the system from the original 6 to around 12.5 kWh. Monitoring of the 'Chinese' batteries is not connected to to the invertor, but I have...

Why is my battery power getting sent back to the grid (as well as powering the house)

As I said I wonder if it's the CTs used, and if a meter like the SDM630 would help (the SDM230 for my single phase setup helped a lot...)

Thanks... I had (belatedly!) worked that out but it's good to get confirmation. If you have three or four batteries in parallel, the wiring must get a lot more complicated to achieve equal lengths...

Why is my battery power getting sent back to the grid (as well as powering the house)

Especially if the monitor(s) on the main meter lead is/are a CT(s) as opposed to a wired-in meter like an Eastron SDM230 (or SDM630 for three-phase). I was 'leaking' a continuous 50 to 100w with a CT, which has dropped to nearly zero with a meter... Only issue with a meter is that you have to...

    Two 'Chinese' batteries in parallel...

Hi, I have a Growatt SPH5000 and GBLI6532 battery, which is 6.5kWh storage.. I've recently added two 'random Chinese' batteries in parallel - the individual batteries are about 3.2 kWh each so I've essentially doubled my battery storage to 12.6kWh ish... The two new batteries are connected in...

'Non Growatt' Eastron SDM230 Modbus V2 with Growatt SPH3600

On the inverter you can set the RS485 port number and also baud rate. The Eastron port should (obviously) be the same - but in my case both were already #1 and 9600 baud, and worked out of the box. Good luck.

Also, have a look at this Solar-Assistant page - https://solar-assistant.io/help/growatt/sph-range There is a chart there for pin-outs for all the connectors for the SPH range - the relevant column is the meter column.

'Non Growatt' Eastron SDM230 Modbus V2 with Growatt SPH3600

    a) The socket is marked CT1/METER1 on my SPH5000. b) The current Growatt manual on the ginverter site has up to date instructions. c) The second picture shows my ethernet cable connections... (disclaimer ... yours just may be different!). I just used cat5e cable but maybe screened cat5e is...

    BMS protocol and read-out

Hello, this is a MOST useful thread. I have two 48V (nominal) 3 kWh batteries, working well but also throwing over voltage alarms when getting 100% charged (cell voltage difference goes up to ~200 mV, over volt protect activates and voltage difference rapidly drops to 50mV or less). I have...

Eastron SDM230 Modbus - use RS485 output for invertor and monitoring?

I've a Growatt SPH5000 and 12.5 kWh battery, and have Eastron SDM230 in the meter tails to control the system. Link to the invertor is Modbus (RS485?). Does Modbus = RS485? Can I also connect a computer or Pi-device (via a RS485 to USB convertor) so I can monitor the output from the meter? Do...

    CT Inaccuracies?

I suppose it's possible but I can't say I like the idea. Many (most?) consumer units will have bus bars on the output of the main switch, to connect to the MCBs, so I can't see how easy it will be to connect (eg) an Eastron. Also, I would prefer such a meter on its own in the external meter...

Growatt compatibility with 'random' Chinese battery?

Hi, I've got and installed two 3.2 kWh 'Chinese' batteries, and connected them in parallel with the original Growatt GBLI6532. (so the initial capacity of the Growatt was 6.5 kWh and the two additional batteries add another 6.4 kWh - as close as I could get to being equal). I monitor the...

    Growatt SPH 3600

Sidenote - I've used a random Eastron SDM230 (setting baud rate to 9600 and id to 1, although you can also modify the address at the invertor) and at least one other user on the forum also got a non-Growatt supplied SDM230, which worked - so I don't think the growatt 'flashing' is really a...

I've just ordered an Orange Pi 3 LTS and plan to run Solar Assistant, to monitor my Growatt SPH5000. In the interim, I've found copies of Growatt's own monitoring software (ShineBus - very out of date) and monitor the invertor using the RS485-1 port, a RS485 to USB adaptor and a micro-PC.
