Hello! 1 of my 4 280ah lifepo4 battery cells has been damaged somehow. It has a puncture and is leaking a little.
I’ve asked Amy if I can just replace it with a newer cell and she advised against it because the newer models are different and could cause damage.
Does anyone have any advice on what to do?
Does anyone have a good condition 280ah older model cell for sale? Thank you

Mixing Lifepo4 is seldom a problem.

What is so amazing different about new and old "model"??

Please provide the specification of both.

The damage "somehow"..
During transport?
Or are you using the cells already for a longer time?

I have several 280Ah cells, but they won't make you happy.
Only transport from Thailand would be exorbitant.
If possible at all to send as private person...

Best probably would be to buy from Amy.

What county are you from?

I’ve had the cells for 3 years, they haven’t been through too many cycles, under 100. Not sure how the one got damaged but either way I can’t get a refund, I’ve tried. I’m in Canada.
Amy says she doesn’t have the older version in stock. The difference is the terminals, some are have a threaded insert, some are on like a raised platform with 4 threads per cells. Another thing is the newer cells are rated for more cycles. Not sure the science as to why they aren’t compatible but Brian Chen from Xuba (who I originally purchased from) said they might damage the old cells. Amy said to be cautious but mixing old/newer cells should be okay and customers have done it before with no problems yet.

That's quite a statement.
@upnorthandpersonal ...
Perhaps you can shine some light on this?

Sure, new design of the terminal.
Hight can be an issue, fixable with flexible busbars. (And other solutions)

Yes, always some improvement.

But that a new cell will damage the old ones???
That is "new".

Probably more to scare then a reality.
And they don't want the warranty claim if something happens.
(What absolutely should not, and it should be safe(!))

3 years, a hundred cycles.
So low intensity useage.

If they can't explain the why, or point you to an article about the why, it's a "hoax", not true.

If they say they had customer with this problems....
It would have been known on this forum also.

For now it's a salesman words...
And they aren't worth sh!t..

I can find lots of new 280 eve with the old style drilled and tapped.

$130., Transport $125
USD..

I'm not selling, I might be able to facilitate.

Costs are quickly $250 probably more close to $300 not Canadian dollar.

They are available, but..
Transport is a +&)$)#!

You can replace it with a newer cell, even with a larger 304Ah one. The reason they say not to do it is because they don't want to take the liability - understandably so. However there is no issue replacing just that one cell with another one, as long as the chemistry (LiFePO4) is the same. Of course, because of slight differences in height and/or terminal placement, you likely end up having to use a flexible bus bar, but that's only a small issue.

Okay awesome this is great news, thanks so much for the replies guys. And I totally thought the same thing, that they didn’t want to be liable and they didn’t want to honour the return to save money. I’ll go ahead and order a 280ah cell probably from a US stock. I appreciate it ?
