Bench power supply not outputting 10a

Hi all. I’m in the process of building an 8s 24v pack out of eve lf280k cells and a jk bms.

I wanted to charge it up to 26.45 so it would take less time to top balance but the supply I bought is only outputting 1.4a… I ordered another one and its doing the same thing.

Am I missing something? I just tested another lifepo4 battery (12v) and the same thing is happening. Not sure why two 10a power supplies would both not be able output their rated amount

The alligator clips are limiting your charging. Replace them with ring terminals.

Make sure you set voltage on your charger BEFORE connecting to the battery.

Plus heavier AWG wire.

Thanks for the tip, ill give that a shot. I have been testing the voltage with a multimeter to confirm before attaching it to the battery

The power supply will only output what the load is drawing. As others have said improving the connections will help. Also the battery may be full and not needing to pull more current. Also setting the target voltage before connecting the power supply may also allow more current to flow into the battery. I cannot tell from the pictures if it is in CV or CC mode? Most likely it is in Constant Voltage mode and the power supply is limiting the current output to keep voltage constant.

As others stated the clips and wires are garbage. Note the power (amps and watts) will decrease as you approach cell top. The watts will drop to 0 when you hit the setting you chose for voltage.
