Chargery BMS State of Charge (SOC) & wHr Meter - how do they really work?

Can anyone explain how the SOC & WHr meter on the Chargery BMS8T works or can be adjusted to show actual SOC or wHrs available? The manual says that SOC self adjusts if you charge or discharge 25% of the battery capacity, but I've not found that to be the case. I hooked up the Chargery BMS8T to a top balanced battery that was nearly full and it showed 0% SOC and 0 wHrs on the output screen. I let it discharge about 85% to roughly 15% capacity remaining with the SOC still reading 0%, then started charging it. As I charged it, the SOC began to climb and the Whr readout started to accumulate Whrs. When the battery reached absorption voltage, the Whr meter showed about 5700 Whr available and 85% SOC. I had expected that once I reached absorption voltage the SOC would reset to 100% charge and the kWh meter would go to about 6600 wHrs (my set capacity of 250ahs). Not sure how to re-calibrate it. Any thoughts?
