Hi Everyone

I am experimenting with crimping lugs. I did a 2/0 lug with a flared end --
Based on the articles and videos on this topic -- should be 300lb to pull off.. didnt test exactly, but i cannot pull off the lug

The lug i used had a flared end, is 1 or 2 crimps a best practice?

and should you crimp the flare?

any other tips -- other than to heat shrink it?

AFAIK the flare is just there to make it easier to insert those fine strands into the lug. To finish them I use heavy duty heat shrink that come with with glue on the inside. It seals them real good.

I use FTZ lugs and a FTZ crimping tool. So temper my experience by that. FTZ makes possibly the best cable lugs available. They make the 'flared' starter lugs, much lighter that their HD battery lugs. My tool has different settings for each type. The tool does not work as well with Anchor Lugs. I could use different settings if I worked it out. I always use marine heat shrink with at least 1 inch up the cable. The instructions with the FTZ lugs list 2 crimps for size 2AWG up on HD battery lugs aka Power Lugs. Lists 2 crimps 2/0 up for flared starter lugs. All others list one crimp.
