Damaged cell safe to use?

Hey guys, maybe a silly post here.

I have some EVE 230AH cells. I was working with them arranging them, just planning out how to build my pack. One of them tipped over and landed on a nut. It broke the plastic sleeve and possibly damaged/scarred the aluminum casing on the inside.

Does this battery still seem safe to use?

Yeah it should be fine (it's just a small ding). But just put a piece of tape (I used blue electrical tape over my nicks), to cover up the aluminum from being exposed. I had found out later that the aluminum casing (under the blue jacket) is one of the terminal conductors (I don't remember now if it was same as positive or negative), but the case needs to be insulated from touching anything.

This picture of mine illustrates some of my repairs using the blue tape. I had another cell which had a ding more like yours but don't have a picture of that one in my album.

Hard to tell the depth of the ding and there is no Puncture which is good.
IF the ding is 2mm or less, I would use it BUT I would put it on the "face" Side of the assembly with the Ding facing out, do put Electrical Tape over it. You do not want to bury the Ding in the pack, just in case it needs replacing.

I would suggest that you set all teh cells in Parallel and do a Top-Balance to 3.650 until Amps Taken reaches 10A. EndAmps/TailCurrent is actually 11.5A so pushing a bit more won't hurt.

The X marks the "Face" side on diagram below.

Thanks for the tips.

I could not believe my eyes when this thing tipped over and had this mark on it afterwards, considering the cost and lead time for these! Glad you guys think its okay to use.
