High Voltage Lights - Anyone have experience?

I bought a number of 18W flush mount lamps which were cheap and pulled the guts out of them. The LED itself operated at 41V. A current limiting resistor would be all that is needed. Mine is a 12V system so I just put a small boost converter in. I run that at 36V because 18W is just too bright for the bathroom. Screw in lamps are a pain to modify. With current so low, 48V probably isn't enough to sustain an arc in a switch.

On a similar subject, lamps seem to come in three varieties. I have a hall light that I wanted to use also as a very dim night light. On the AC switch I just put a .047uF capacitor in parallel with the switch. That operates the lamp at about 30mw, more than enough to see. Some lamps won't do this. They either don't work at all or will flash. Nice for Halloween or or as an emergency flasher to help the ambulance find your house faster. Standard dimmable lLED amps might just work on 48V.
