Hi - Has anyone heard of Nuvation? After a quick read I envision this is what a polished Chargery BMS should be. ;-) @Will Prowse

I stumbled across this BMS system while reviewing IronEdison LifePO4 product line. They use a combination of this BMS along with the active balancer QNBBM to manage their LifePO4 line (see picture): https://ironedison.com/48-volt-lithium-battery-for-solar

For the price it looks somewhat interesting given the commercial use and the amount of features and expandability. My first thought is that since this is being leveraged by larger installs it maybe more proven and robust than the current options out there that I am reviewing, SmartBMS, ANT, Chargery, 123BMS. I have not had a chance to dig through all the specs. yet but I thought I'd share the finding.

Low voltage BMS offering: https://www.nuvationenergy.com/battery-management-systems/low-voltage-bms
Technical Specs.: https://www.nuvationenergy.com/site...Nuvation-Energy-Low-Voltage-BMS-Datasheet.pdf

+ I like the fact it looks like you can add onto the BMS and monitor a separate battery bank.

Thanks

Scanning thru that datasheet, it seemed they talked an awful lot about the connectivity, but very little about what it actually does. Are there parameters for low and high temp .... or any of the other protection features?
Maybe I missed something, but I didn't see any discussion of what it actually does or data it can display.

Looks like a nice bms! I like the fact that it has both Modbus and Ethernet connectivity built in. Too bad it doesn't have an integrated display. Like Bob, I'm curious about the feature set.

Cool find!

Ok .... so somebody get one and let us know :giggle:

Price is higher than Batrium so I don't know if it's something that'll be considered for a DIYer.

They have a YouTube channel with some good content as well. I am so close to getting a couple of BMS's from them but it is definitely a investment. I plan to pair up with a Sol-Ark 12k.

I saw that document, but didn't investigate. Thanks -it is downloaded now.

Any idea on pricing?
They have posted a few videos but the system is more complex than the one unit with cables. Prices are about 1200 per cell pack you make. In my case. I will try to go cheap and make 4 individual packs but it is still getting close to $5k usd.

Price aside, they will let you get time with a engineer to get a better idea of what you need and try to help you not pay for anything you don't want or need for your system.

The nuvation BMS is what solark recommends if we are going to build a diy battery.

OG Solar Store has a pretty neat prewired Nuvation kit.

Just trying to understand why the nuvation BMS is so much more money than others? Is it the UL listing?

True North American USA/Canada design from a company that primarily provides BMS for utility scale ESS systems. And the UL yeah, but that doesn't transfer to make a DIY pack UL itself.

I have a Nuvation BMS connected to two large Harris LFP Batteries. There is a VGA port on the Nuvation BMS, but there doesn't seem to be any documentation in the Nuvation manuals about that connection. Does anyone here know if the VGA connection does anything? Thanks!

Could it actually be a DB9 Serial port? I don't see those on current gen models but I wouldn't be surprised if they used to.

Otherwise maybe they repurposed VGA for other outputs, or maybe video has to be enabled somehow.
