Hey everyone, I'm a Tiny Home builder in Southern Arizona. Construction is almost complete. Just installed 12 SanTan Solar used 250w Trina panels roof mounted. The voltages for each panel is reading 32v-34v, which I tested before mounting them. I'm looking for a decent charge controller but won't break the bank. It will be mounted about 2'-20' from the panels in a well ventilated utility loft above the bathroom. I am open to different panel wiring schemes. It's difficult to find actual specs for many of the cheaper brand hardware out there. Do I need a 60A or a 100A controller? Or should I split the arrays and use two 30A controllers? I Can't get results from the online solar calculators because I'm uncertain which values to use. The power panel is wired inside the home for 120v and have 12v wiring through out the house. Thanks in advance everyone. Below are the panel specs.

  • Rated Power: 250W
  • Open circuit voltage (VOC): 37.6 V
  • Max power voltage (VMP): 30.3 V
  • Short circuit current (ISC): 8.85 A
  • Max power current: 8.27 A
  • Power Tolerance 0/+3%
  • Maximum system voltage: 600V (UL)

What's your nominal battery/inverter voltage? You've got 3000w of panel so you'll need:

3000w / 12v = 250a
3000w / 24v = 125a
3000w / 48v = 62a

In reality you'll only get 80%-ish out of the panels so you could realistically go:

2400w / 12w = 200a
2400w / 24v = 100a
2400w / 48v = 50a
