Fully offgrid setup, what I'd like to run:

  • Two different solar arrays going into the two solar inputs.
  • The generator output configured as the smart load which will hook into a water heater element.
  • The line/grid input being a generator.
Feel free to correct me on any of that, but the last one in particular I'm trying to find the right generator. I have a few propane open frame contractor style generators but I've also been looking at this: https://www.generac.com/all-products/generators/portable-generators/xd-series/xd5000e just because of the diesel aspect and I've had really good luck with Yanmar in particular.

The generac says " <6% harmonic distortion " but I'm assuming it's still not a pure sine wave.

Edit: My goal really is to have a way to manually spin up a generator for powering on multiple dark days in a row.

It should work just fine for that application but you can call Sol-Ark and get confirmation. Is this a 12K sol-ark?
