Hi!
I have a 12v system consisting of four Hqst Module Type 150D Max Power STC 150W panels, Open circuit voltage 22.5v, Short circuit current 9.0A. There is a pass box with a red 50A switch that appears to be open in pic #1 bellow. This passbox connects the Pv cables from outside to an Hqst Mppt 40 Solar charge controller. This Solar charge controller is very similar if not identical to the Epever Tracer 1 reviewed in one of yo Will’s YouTube videos a couple of years ago. Both user manuals are basically identical. There is a circuit breaker connected to a 3000w Edecoa power inverter and finally two Powertec 12v 250AH lead acid batteries. The batteries are connected to a BLS-12/24C electronic desulfator.
The inverter and the two batteries are brand new. The inverter shows batteries are charged (3 horizontal bars), I ran the system and everything worked fine but the Hqst 40A Solar charge controller is not charging batteries. I tested the panels with a multimeter around 12 noon and each one read 19.6-19.8 volts (DCV). The label in panels Open circuit voltage is 22.5 but I read somewhere that when panels are very hot they tend to be a bit lower so I assumed that 19.8 means the panels are good. But the controller is not charging. What can be wrong? Can someone help me fix this? I can send you a short video showing the system and the Solar controller readings.
