I am new at all of this. The more I read the more questions arise. Here is one. I purchased an EG4 8k 48 volt off grid inverter. I am told that I must install a transfer switch between the inverter and my panel box. Where do I purchase this, what is the best brand, and how do you wire it up?

Can narrow this search to meet your needs. Alternatively, call an Electrician as the safe installation will require the meter to be pulled and all connections to be torqued and wires run through conduit. (Not to mention inspection)

Tools required:
Large gauge wire cutters (or electric bandsaw)
hacksaw, sawzall, or electric bandsaw to cut conduit
file to debur conduit
Torque wrench and proper hex sockets for terminals
misc screwdrivers
large gauge wire stripper (or box knife if you don't mind damaging the wire)

Materials required
2/0 copper wire for 200a service (4/0 aluminum)
2 inch conduit
conduit fittings
transfer switch (Expect to pay about 900-1700 for this)

Without the proper skills, this can be daunting and if you can't safely succeed, you'll likely not have power until an electrician can come to fix it. Safest bet for anything that requires meter disconnect is to have a licensed electrician do this task as it may require coordination with your local electric service.
