If your charge controller, or inverter can handle the voltage, then do series. You're wallet will thank you because of the cabling cost, and no need for combiners, or branch connectors.

It seems prudent to do 2 strings of 4 panels so that you keep a reasonable Voc. I believe they would call this a 4S2P. Here is a wiring diagram :

You'll need a pair of MC4 Y-connectors.

This will give you a Voc of 108 V, so you'll need to find a charge controller that can handle that. How much are you willing to spend? Victron makes this number of models that can handle 150V :
