Lion energy better than Battle Born?

I knew that thread title would get you attention , especially Battle Born owners and to be honest I was I was waiting for a black Monday sale to buy 4 of them , but last weekend I saw a add from Costco for the Lion Energy on sale for 699.00 + tax and for 4 batteries it was 3052.00 delivered to my door so I figured I would just give them a try and if I didn't like them I could just return them in November because of Costcos excellent return policies , but after I ordered the batteries I started researching Lion energy products via Will P. videos and other Utube posts , also Lion energy sites and after looking at the warranty for the UT 1300 which is 3500 cycles (If you cycle 1 time every day that ends up being 9.5 years and if the battery has less than 80% capacity at or anytime before the 3500 cycles they will repair or replace it) I will never cycle this bank every day , might cycle them 3 times in a week maybe. And at that rate we are talking 30 + years of warranty.
I know what you're thinking (well what good is a warranty if they go bankrupt) and your right but then there's the Costco satisfaction guarantee and the way I see it if Lion energy folded up or would not back up the 3500 cycle warranty Costco would refund my money no problem. So I consider this double protection. And to make sure I called Costco this morning and they said as long as the item is not on the exclusion list (TVs , DVD players, watches, computers, ect ect ect) that they would refund the purchase price easy peasy. And the person I talked to agreed that the batteries were not on the list.
So now let's talk about Battle Borns warranty , they have a 8 year full repair or replace warranty and after 8 years they give you 30% discount on new replacement batteries if you're batteries are under 80% capacity for 2 years after the 8 year full warranty for a total of 10 years and then your on your own whether or not you only had a handful of cycles on them , I thought that was a excellent warranty until this weekend. After looking at all this I now think Lion energy in combination with Costco is the safest long term bet out there.
Also if you use the Costco credit card doesn't that double your warranty coverage? I don't know how much luck I would have with that argument but it might work . Either way you're going to be covered 100% by Costco for at least 9.5 years , all the other scenarios they might fight with you on depending on how long ago the purchase happened.
I don't know am I missing something , let me know if you guys and gals spot a flaw in my thinking.
Who's to say Battle Born will still be in business in a year or two or 5 or 8-9 years from now .

just looked them up on their site and their 105ah is only 23 LBs ? i think Will needs to cut that bad boy open ,that’s between 5-8 lbs lighter than some of the other top of the line . Looks like they uses pouch cells like Renogy ! renogy’s build was very good but still weighed 3 lbs more than the Lion Energy , what is lion leaving out ?at 105ah and 1344 Wh that is BB country . From watching Will break down a Battle Born , a warranty might not be needed with them , just saying .

Lion Safari UT 1300
12V 105Ah Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) Battery

  • More Power — 12.8V Nominal, 105Ah, 1344Wh, 150A (continuous discharge)
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty — The last battery you'll ever buy!
  • Zero Maintenance — Holds charge for 2 years.
  • Light Weight — 23 pounds.

Will did open one up , it has 4 aluminium prismatic cells , over all he likes the battery the only things he had a problem with were the terminal bolts were small and the plastic case seemed cheap, but if you have a problem with these things they should be covered by the warranty...right?

Nothing wrong with saving money, especially when you have a couple of avenues of warranty help.

I’m one of those who went with the Battle Born batteries, and it really had nothing to do with their warranty, although it is pretty solid. It had more to do with build quality and a gazillion real-use hours in the field under the sort of conditions I expect. My build is for emergency preparedness, and power when gas may not be readily available... a case where warranty doesn’t matter as much as confidence that it’s over-engineered to be there when you need it. Having seen both batteries disassembled (along with others), the choice was clear.

If I were going for a less important use, or just needed to shave a chunk of dollars to make the budget, I’d use the Lion Energy batteries with no problem. They look like perfectly functional batteries, especially at the cost, and I am certain they’re a better cost per watt deal than Battle Born... just not a better made battery.

That, of course, is only my opinion and how I spent my dollars. I’ve got no qualms whatsoever with anyone who thinks Lion Energy, or home-built, or whatever floats your boat, is best. If you’re happy with your batteries, I’m happy for you!

Everything you said is valid and vary true

I think Battle Born is a better battery but I went with the Costco Lion Energy deal. I put 3 in my truck camper, the Battle Born's were just a little too big. Also there's some weight savings, not much I know but in a truck camper you watch every pound. Both companies have good customer service from my experience.

How long ago did you get your batteries

How is the company counting cycles for the warranty check.?
The BMS on lion energy has a cycle counter. I still do not know what constitutes a "cycle", but it does have it for warranty claims. There is a small data port on the BMS to access this information.

Hello Will P. thanks for your response , I texted Lion Energy for info on the Question that was asked by Supervstech yesterday and the answer came back as "The BMS will keep count of the life cycles. A full life cycle is 100% to empty and backup. So if it 80% to 20% for instance , it will be a partial life cycle and keep a tally still. Its rated for a minimum of 3500 life cycles. "
I then asked for clarification "So the 80% to 20% only counts as 60% of a cycle?"
And the text back was as follows "More like half a life cycle.... just not a full cycle.
I posted these answers in response to Suprevstech's question yesterday but I dont see it here anymore, dont know what happened.
Your the best , I have learned so much from you in the last year. If you could only teach me how to post a picture I would show you my setup. I think you would like it.
Thanks for everything

Just got the Lion's last week. I've also read BMS counts the cycles. Here they are in my truck camper. Yes I removed my oven, never used it.

Hey Rocko340
Thanks for the picture's, very nice.
My batteries were supposed to be here yesterday, took the day off and everything so I could sign for them and they never showed up , soooooo pissed.
After making calls to UPS , Costco, and Lion energy , not sure who screwed up yet, I got a email this morning that my batteries will be here tomorrow sometime and now I have to take another day off to sign for them. This good deal is getting more expensive by the day.

6269ed,
Hate to hear that, hope they arrive soon. I live in a small town and know the UPS guy, he just left mine on the back porch with no signature.

Ya know Rick ,you got me thinking about a lot of stuff with what you said and if the Black Friday sale ends up being around 735.00 a battery I think I might have to go that way. I have seen reference to the prices from 735.00 to 835.00 and I dont believe BB charges sales tax and if thats the case at 735.00 per it would be cheaper than the Lion Energy thru Costco which does charge sales tax.
I will have to check out the prices this November and if its a good enough deal I think I will have to go that way. Come crunch time it is the superior battery .

Since the topic is about getting deals, what about Lynac? Just google them, I have no association with them but $847 CDN is like $625 for 120 amp hours. I’m interested but haven’t heard any feedback on them? Anyone else?

I have never heard of them and until Will P. Does a break down and review I don't think they would be for me. I need all my bases covered before I could pull the trigger on a big investment like 625.00 x 4

I think they are new for sure but reading their website Im interested based on price and it looks like they market 120’s as 100’s and call it a “true” 100 amp hours at 80% of 120.
