I'm no stranger to learning and diy. I built the house I'm living in with my two hands and it took a lot of planning and research - framing, electrical, HVAC , drywall, septic etc.
That was childs play compared to solar. No wonder the unsuspecting public easily falls prey to solar salespeople...
hi guys,
I finally got my system set up after 1 SOLID year of researching solar PV here there and everywhere and 5 years of solar home building research and planning.
I built my passive solar house with pv in mind. No penetrations on the south side. The optimizer said 32° roof angle facing 4...
about a year ago when I joined, it was the Schneider xw pro that was popular for low frequency, and the growatts and voltronics were popular for high frequency off grid.
Now I hear almost no mention of them. That's how quickly the landscape is changing. Today 6000xp is extremely popular and we...
I told my wife I got a bonus and had to have a ton of self talk to not buy an 18kpv. I was looking at victron but their self consumption doesn't work in the USA.
The only reason I would even want one is to seamlessly support ALL the loads in my house.
She said "you spend so much on your...
or at least going on a very long Hiatus.
So I built a passive solar house- the roof is 35° slope facing 4° west. no penetrations, no shading. I built it to be perfect for solar panels.
BUT, net metering ended two months ago before I could get in and I have spent the last two months trying to...
https://diysolarforum.com/threads/my-solar-pv-journey-is-officially-ending.61214/
I had decided not to go solar due to the cost vs benefits. Well, after being on here a while and seeing some great deals, and doing endless spreadsheets and calcations, the decision has been rescinded! ?
I...
These guys are something else. I was looking at their 20s packs then david poz made a vid on them and they sold out a week later.
So when he made a vid on the 8s packs, with 10% discount, I jumped on them , far before I needed them. Good thing I did cos they sold out a few days later.
Almost 3...
Such a great time for diy pv. Competition is heating up! Check this one out! $3600.
https://www.aimscorp.net/product/hybrid-inverter-charger-9-6-kw-power-output-15-kw-solar-input/
spent an hour editing this and adding audio and it got messed up. not spending the time again. you can easily see whats happening.
@sunshine_eggo wanted to know, what happens to the power when the battery is full and a heavy load turns off.
the answer is here. first clip water heater turns on-...
My shed's roof is white
I was excited to add panels to the roof of the shed to see further cooling from the shading.
I covered the roof with 6 bifacial panels with only a little bit of roof left exposed.
Next day I noticed inverter temperature was higher than normal. What the hey? So I...
For every solark thread or video I see on the Internet, I'm seeing at least two for 18kpv and 5 for eg4 6000xp.
When the 18kpv was announced solark quickly dropped their prices. Now the 6000xp is the new kid on the block and they are everywhere! Where does that leave solark?
It seems no one's...
so you guys convinced me to do an inverter/charger with batteries instead of generator for well pump backup.
as a refresher its a 1hp pump that draws 22-25 amps startup and 9 amps run.
leading contender has been the growatt 6000. its low frequency so it wont have any problems starting the...

these look like a good deal with free shipping.
my question is - without disassembling them or breaking them down to individual cells- how minimally invasive would it be to...
Very generous gentleman in Kansas offered me 10. For free!. don't need anywhere that much so I took 4 which should be more than enough.
Each one is 4ft x10ft and weighs maybe 150lbs.
He said if anyone wants some come get as many or as few as you want. He has 6 left. Let me know if you are...
For roughly the same price I can get 2x victron multiplus ii 48/5000 120v ,an ac coupled pv inverter, a grid meter, and a cerbo gx
Or
An eg4 18kpv, which already has a grid meter and DC coupled mppts, and solar assistant.
The victrons will output about 8-10kw per mfg spec, and the eg4 will...
I have an outside disconnect and an inside panel.
I want to put something between them that will allow me to send power to two inverters.
I can do another panel, I've heard of tap boxes, terminal boxes etc. These all cost about $400+
What's the best and most cost effective way to do this?
The whole system is connected to the main ground at the inverter.
But then I just realized that the panels are sitting on aluminum frames directly on the ground ,so its like having a ground rod.
Is this going to cause issues? Should I remove the ground at the inverter?
I've decided on a grid parallel hybrid setup that powers the main panel in connection with the grid but doesn't export to the grid. There are solutions out there!
I would love to get a solark, or a Schneider ,or victron, but their price kills my ROI(my per kWh price is currently 13.2cents)
So...
Tl:Dr is there no aio that connects to the main panel just like a grid tie?
Long story:
I had paid an engineer for a design for a grid tied system then the utility removed net metering and doing the math grid tied doesn't make sense anymore.
Now I just want a system that will pull...
Bought some batteries and 2 of the 6 packs have a broken weld at the busbar. All the cells(8s) have welded busbars and bolted into one unit so I imagine it would be difficult to try to replace just the one. Im wondering if this type of terminal can be tapped? Or what can I do? Thanks
This is hard because I love this thing but the manufacturer has decided to no longer sell it. Damn.

I'm exploring using an aio inverter solely as a charge controller.
it has two mppts up to 500v. I can have up to 8000w of solar attached.
but it says it has 80a max of charging, which at 57.6v is only 4600w.
so does this mean that even if I have 8000w attached it will only ever charge the...
hi, looking at an inverter with no bms comms. the batteries will be lifepo4 with a bms . will this work? ie do i have to charge based on voltage? or will this still be able to work based on actual state of charge. sorry, Im new to this
