EG4 18kPV Q+A general thread

Does the DC coupled solar start working correctly if you turn off the AC Coupled? I have not downloaded firmware 1919, but I have discovered that my AC Coupled has all kind of weird thing happen when I have seamless switch on. Wonder if it will do anything if you turn it off?
Also I have called SS before and they have put the old firmware back my 18Kpv. That might be an option.

I noticed when I upgraded to the latest firmware that some of my settings changed, and I had to review all of my settings and change them back to what I need for my inverter to work again. Once I changed my settings back to what I expected it started working again.

Oncei ran home from work I restarted the inverter and everything started functioning normally again. Weird glitch. I'll see what happens over the next few days if the sun ever comes out

Yeah it is better to power cycle it again after it does its own power cycle from a firmware update. I have confirmed this on my own unit and with EG4 as well as a few other reports here.

yeah, 1919 is causing me some issue now as well.

My AC Couple shows 0, but the inverter that is the AC couple is putting out power.

My load is showing a 1 KW, but I know it is around 7 KW right now.

Panels and battery are providing 5 KW to the indicated 1 KW load.

WOW. And as I am typing this, it now switched to just my AC Coupled and the grid.

Hello! Got the 18k powered on today and have been playing with some settings. I'm coming from a pair of 6500EXs as I'm sure at least a few here have. I don't have an interconnect agreement (planning on tackling this over the summer) so at this point looking to see if I can replicate the standard 6500EX flow:
  1. Run in Off-Grid Mode from batteries until they reach a specified SOC
  2. At that specified SOC (usually sometime at night) switch to grid to power the loads
  3. When solar charges the batteries to a certain SOC the next day switch back to Off-Grid Mode
Right now I'm currently in Off-Grid Mode and batteries are happily powering the loads. From what I understand I can set the Off-Grid Cut-Off SOC(%) in the Discharge Setting which will switch back over to grid to power the loads (#2 above). The question I have is how (or if?) I can configure it to switch BACK to Off-Grid Mode at a specified SOC?

Something like off grid until 30% SOC, then switch to grid, then switch BACK to off grid at 50% SOC.

I skimmed the newest manual I could find and tried to make sense out of the options in the menus on the screen and the website but am coming up empty. I'm assuming it uses a different set of values? Appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction. Apologize if I missed this somewhere, it's been a week! Thanks in advance!

You don't have to be in off grid mode. Just set zero export and fast zero export to on. The rest is fooling with battery % for discharge and charge

I'm seeing ghosts in the machine on FAAB-1919 as well. Multiple "W009: Fan Stuck" messages - they're all spinning - visually inspected. Also getting multiple "M3 TX failure" messages. Back-feeding on GEN port. Starting to get annoyed. Support is dancing around the issue, so far.

Blew >$5K and stuck. Do you mind sharing your settings? I desperately want this to work.

Can you ask support to downgrade your firmware back to previous stable release?

If I’m not selling back and enable zero export, do I have to put CTs in the main panel?

I'm very interested in how fast the "Fast Zero Export" mode on the 18kPV actually is.
@1201 Mentioned that someone had observed a really fast response using Emporia.
Manual says:
  • Fast Zero Export: Normally the inverter will adjust output power every 5 seconds to avoid export.
If Fast Zero Export is enabled, the inverter will adjust output power accordingly.
"Accordingly" is pretty vague.:)

If anyone has an energy/power meter capable of measuring faster than 1 Hz on the incoming grid, and has an 18kPV installed in Fast Zero Export mode, I'm looking for a graph or data similar to this one for my Quattros:
I assume the 18kPV does not give you access to the this data using connected CTs.
Thanks

Actually since a few minutes after the weirdness mine has been fine on 1919

For the ac coupled have you tried turning off seamless switch. My ac coupled inverter goes crazy with that on

Weirdly enough mine is working fine with AC coupling and seamless switch on.

My fix was just a full restart. It's been fine since.

It might be my Growatt that’s the problem then. With seamless switch on the 18Kpv will keep cutting out the AC. When I called Growatt they noticed this. I have 1616 firmware and plan on not changing unless I have a problem. I went ahead and turned off the wifi to the 18Kpv, because the unit is running so well. Only issue I have now is my Husqvarna Automower goes dead if it gets within 25 feet of the inverters.

Please DM me your serial number for your inverter and I will look into this.

I updated my firmware to 1919 last night, changed zero settings, but now I'm getting some weird behavior.

My battery is full, and my DC coupled solar is shutting down instead of selling to the grid. The DC coupled solar will trickle in a few watts here and there to keep the battery topped off, then shut down again.

It's been selling back just fine in the past, but now it's "stuck" to just charging the battery.

Any ideas?
