Eclipse 2024

My home is not quite in the path of totality. It will be about 99.8% at close to 2pm. My PV setup is way more than needed this time of year without AC needed and minor day time loads. The batteries recharge from overnight discharge by 11AM-12 noon. So far clouds have been just a light haze with almost no blockage of the sun.

Because of being fully charged the eclipse will not effect my PV generation. So while the rest of Nation suffers catastrophic power shortages, riots, looting, civil disorder and complete collapse, I should not be adversely impacted.

During the last partial eclipse here in California, I was pumping irrigation water that day, after watering my orchard trees earlier that morning. Saw the solar input drop from 2200W to 800W. I shut off the pump till at least 4/5 of the sun re-appeared.

Won’t ordinary clouds also snuff solar generation? Here in south TX it will be cloudy anyway, probably a minimal loss from the eclipse. Also the eclipse will last less than an hour.

I am in the path so will be interesting to see it drop off at peak pv production time. But cloudy conditions already so….will post graph later…

Lol.

I'm in Upstate NY. In the path of totality. Not worried about my PV harvesting and I live fully off grid in a family of five.

I just looked yesterday, we're down in Puerto Vallarta on vacation and happen to be pretty close to the path of totality, something like 96% coverage just by chance. Looking forward to it!

ISO-NE shows an estimated 6000MW of behind the meter solar right now. It is perfectly clear today.
Timing wise isn’t that far off from the afternoon steep climb so nothing too worried (knock on wood).

I'm about 10 mile closer
It's going to be hit or miss, frequent breaks in the clouds so "timing" is critical.

Laughed at "upstate", we usually say "North Country" around here.
Was'nt sure if most people on here would understand "North Country" term though.

That’s a beautiful town to boot!
