reduce consumption of energy

improve the living standard for hummanity

reduce waste

There is a similar thread that has many great ideas but is infected with anthropogenic global warming as the result of Co2 nonsense.

Some people are environmentally conscious and have a desire to improve the environment of our Earth, but don't want to be a part of the "Climate change requires taking your rights and or choices" that the government and corporate interests are attempting to force on us with no concern for the well being of the Earth or its inhabitants.

In that thread the unassailable truth of "Climate Change" is not to be questioned. Fine, but it certainly muddies the water on where we should focus our efforts.

I am hoping that we can highlight positive environmental impacts that we can have on our world and our environment.

This thread should not allow any discussion of;

climate change

carbon footprint

climate catastrophe

Co2 as a negative to the planets ecosystem

overpopulation/depopulation

bans

culling

coercion by government or corporations

Etc.

If the solution is to limit another humans rights or options it has no place here.

We can debate what will or will not have a positive influence on our society and planet, but it must be based on personal observation, the scientific method, etc. Computer models of outcomes with questionable datasets and motivations are not considered scientific for the sake of this discussion.

This thread should also focus on the goal of supporting the flourishing of the human species, including all current and future human beings while trying to improve and maintain the cleanliness of our environment.

I will give a few examples that I think are valuable. I am sure many will have great ideas and suggestions.

repurpose unused items and materials

recycle to ones best ability

buy and maintain older cars instead of buying new

drive the vehicle you have in a way that will maximize mpg instead of taking loans to pay for mpg that doesn't make economic sense in the long term

use wood pellets that are made from sustainable timber crops, not old growth British Columbian trees that take 1000 years to grow back

purchase local food and grow your own food

build clean burning campfires not smoldering wet grass piles that dirty the air

don't pollute or litter

try to avoid products that have forced obsolescence built in

buy durable things and repair them if possible

I look forward to the discussion and Ideas.

the best thing that could be done by the individual, mind you this is my opinion, would be to break the circle of consumerism.

Smaller more reasonable houses. smaller more reasonable vehicles. If you need a truck daily, you need a truck...but if you do not, just rent one when you do.

Focus on vehicles that actually meet your needs, not the latest doohickey to come out of some advertising/marketing campaign

to much stuff (read shit) that we honestly do not need is purchased because like a bunch of lemmings people follow the advertising. advertising is just that, someone who wants to separate you form your wealth for something you generally do not need.

stop buying items that have no real value. i know it sounds cliche but people buy shit all the time out of, I think pure laziness...

Very sage advice. When I think about it, most of the items that work out well are things which are not advertised things. They are things which I happened across or sought out on my own. Advertising is indeed just propaganda, some are more susceptible to that than others.

I agree about the size of homes. I have never understood large houses unless you have a huge family or something. I would personally rather own a beach house, a cabin in the mountains and one in the desert than any big house out there.
Large property and small house beats large house on a lot in my mind. What good is a 5000 square foot house surrounded by irritating neighbors? No thanks. Give me a compound of shacks on a few or more acres any day, To each their own as they say.

yep, we have an 1800 sq ft house with the wife me and two daughters. once the girls are done with school, college or trade school their choice, The wife and i will either sell this house, or rent it. At that time permanently move to the cabin. its 800 sqft and perfect for two people. less space to fill with worthless stuff, less space to heat or cool, less impact overall.

I think reducing actual environmental pollution is of most importance.
Things we can do at our level:

0. This to me is most important because its a single source that contaminates the most it seems - stop throwing garbage, especially plastics out on the street/outdoors/in nature. If every single person would carry their crap to the nearest garbage can, we would eliminate A LOT of pollution on our land and in our oceans. (Covid mask crime was the worst, as lot of the useless masks ended up in the environment and few bother to know that masks contain some of the most toxic chemicals in them - this also showed the hypocrisy of the establishment in their total neglect to environmental pollution they were causing).

1. Reduce usage of cheap plastics - i.e. stop buying cheap Chinese crap that is essentially only good for a few uses before it has to be discarded. Because most of it is made of mixed plastics, it can not be recycled.

2. Stop buying useless electronics and try to use your existing electronics as long as possible. It is much better to save up a little, get a higher end product and use it for much longer time. This goes for almost everything electronic or electric - Appliances, Phones, Computers, Tablets.
Try to buy things with replaceable batteries. I hate the new "glued everything" electronics which can not be repaired most of the times and has to be discarded. Not only is it nearly impossible to recycle (very few recyclable components in electronics, plus the compound manufacturing process makes it nearly impossible with our current REAL recycling tech which is very limited).
One more thing to notice - superthin laptops while look cool, suffer from severe thermal throttling to keep the thing from melting down, and even when its specced with high end components, the fact the its constantly throttled down makes it a very inferior product performance wise (most MAC books, most "thin" PC laptops).

3. Stop upgrading your phone every year (or 2, or 3 or 4). I keep my phone 6+ years or until it completely breaks down. Stop impressing the Joneses with money most dont have buying items most dont need.

4. Most certainly DO NOT buy an EV. With current tech, their manufacturing process is one of the most environmental pollution causing and wreaks complete chaos when there is a Thermal Event (Aka battery fire).

5. Try to recycle what is recyclable, but understand the limitations. There are actually only a few plastics (1,2,5) that can be recycled somewhat easily. (6 and 7 are essentially non-recyclable, and 4 is hard to recycle (i.e. economically unviable, so most of it goes to the landfill) The best thing to do here is to minimize plastic usage as much as possible. (I.e do not use plastic wrap on your food, not only is it extremely bad for your health, contaminated plastic film can not be recycled).

Do not support GMO, Geoengineering or Bioengineering, aka messing with mother Nature. This is wreaking a lot of chaos on our planet. Educate people as much as possible on the dangers of the above.

Great points. Unfortunately many recycling programs don't recycle much if anything. That seems like great place to improve things, but it does take energy, possibly in some cases enough energy is worth it for us to consolidate things and keep a neater landscape.

The plastic in the ocean is really bad as of the last few decades. It washes up on the Pacific coastline in a way that I never saw when I was young.

Instead of wasting money on things like Israel, Ukraine,Bankster bailouts and general Corporate Welfare, as well as millions of useless "social" programs, it would make sense to invest some of this money into actual recycling.
Yes, recycling is economically unviable (This is why a lot of stuff is dumped into landfills), but this is one area where I would gladly pay a "fee" that would pay to actually recycle the item to cause less pollution. And this should be 100% private industry competing for who can do it in the most ecological and efficient way! (And vast majority of people would not mind paying a small recycling fee because it would be a tiny fraction of the cost we pay for the above via taxes - imagine not having to pay for all of the waste above via outrageous taxes!)

800 square feet is a really great size in an area with 4 seasons. Heating is so much more pleasant in a building that is not too small or large. Heat source sizing, insulation, and ventilation play a role but there is an optimal size in my opinion.

Any time we see ppl wanting huge sums of money thrown at problems without verified proof of where it is going and the solution working then it is a SCAM. Climate change false science worshipping agenda is a scam.

The funny thing is that masks are completely disgusting. As you said poison. We should have no mask waste at all, but we spread forever chemicals around the globe for no reason. I'd like to see the lawsuits to sue the scammers out of existence for promoting those horrible nonsense "medical countermeasures". They were everywhere during the event that was called a pandemic. It was not based on reality at all and they knew it. It was completely premeditated fraud on so many levels. The only place one should ever litter those is onto the floor if some person tries to hand you one at the door of a business. They should be made to pick up their trash. Actually call masks trash is an insult to trash. Trash at least had a purpose at one point!

The huge house thing is a result of economics.

You cannot put a reasonable sized house on a $400,000.00 lot. You're then "under-built" and lose your ass if you sell it.

I'm not sure what I can do personally. As someone with beachfront property I would love to see the elimination of disposable plastics.

I'm anti government but I wouldn't cry if every container and package was assigned a value of like 10 cents that you get returned to you upon recycling or whoever finds it if it gets away.

the problem with that - ends up with group of ppl trying to tell others how to live which is what you did, what to buy, and it becomes a culture. Some Ppl are not going to fit in. So we get things like DEI for ppl that can’t or won’t fit in. Ppl that don’t fit into USA society skirt around it by DEI. Allowed to be exceptions. Why communism never works.\

Sorta like emission testing if you are on welfare get a form from welfare office and your vehicle is exempt from emission testing. Poor ppl can pollute all they want - exempt so then it is determined that the emission testing is admitted fee grab. It initially cost $10 every time before tag was due be replaced for vehicle. Put you under pressure. They forced ppl fix it to hit standards or you had show receipts of $300 towards repairs from State and County certified emission repair shops. Money steering and control. Mind you this emission certification came from county govt officials wanting to just raise property tax and had met resistance-told “no”. So they said would just get money another way. Emission testing is not a State Wide requirement just a tax tool for certain counties but testing sites are monitored by state govt. so we end up with bigger govt - fee grabbing. The fee doubled to $20. BTW Next year after that emission testing fee was started for tags they raised property tax anyway.
So …. Now WE tax payers had property tax increased based on homes value. Section 8 govt Renters get to enjoy the schools and such from our taxes no worries. Stress free. Yum Yummy.

Then the county decided to add garbage services from a State certified garbage collector - bill became part of property taxes. We were suppose to separate recyclables for them or get penalty. We had different bins .. the Junk men figured out they could drive around earlier then trash trucks - grab the aluminum from separated bins and sell it. The police arrested them for stealing. Then they did away with bins. They made huge sorting machine get trash separated at facility. They sell recycles and collect tax fees.

I ended up selling and moving. Taxed to death. Govt determined they would do what they want in that area. Ppl like me and others got tired of petitions and such The straw was county approved building several more apartment buildings so then even more section 8 was brought in. They closed the projects. Ruined the schools and ruined the community still added more tax on everyone with real property. Sewer drain off was next one.

My solution is wall democrats in so they can’t move and bring their screwed up ideas from the areas they destroyed. They come in preaching how to make things better like piped piper. Ppl wanting things better join them every time and end up disappointed. Have to move. I never joined them so left in short order. Some ppl are still there. The politicians live in Gated Private security zones. Safe and fuzzy Their children go to private elite schools safe and fuzzy. They created a safe space just for themselves…..while they rule.

End Taxes. Defund police and govt. Make Tar and Feathers great again. Simple solution.

Why is japan so clean in all the videos have seen? Where does the trash go? There has to be huge trash heaps somewhere No trash cans are shown and videos mention it was after they were used by terrorist - trash cans were out lawed. I’ve never been to Japan but noticed they use a lot of packaging just like us. It has to go - end up somewhere.

Cokes use to come in glass. Beaches wanted glass banned - broken glass cuts and hurts. You get plastic. Want a paper straw in a plastic wrapper?

Oregon's coast is littered with plastic, but very hardly ever bottles or cans. Deposit systems work well to keep them from being littered for long. It gives one the ability to make a small amount of money for fairly easily, which helps people.

I used to like finding little bits of smoothed washed up glass in different colors, when it was fairly rare. It's the sharp beer bottles that some ass threw on the rocks last week that you have to watch for.

I used to get refilled bottles at a local swap meet as a kid. They were brand name refills in old bottles that were hazy at the wide parts of the bottle from years of use.
