Renogy DC DC Charger w/ MPPT

Hi
Grounding a system to the chassis is common terminology. No where would you ever expect to equate grounding in a vehicle to that of earth grounding, as in earth spike. To quote the manual “Connect to Ground / Chassis” and in that reply I was, indeed, referring to the manual.
Regards
Well, in post #59 you used the term earth twice, and once in #72. That's all. My manual does not say earth.

How would you know if you have a smart alternator?
Hi
If you measured the voltage you would see it decrease as the battery charged. Old type alternators maintain a constant voltage irrespective of battery charge. It should also state it in the manual.

My last word on this

Ground
Electricity
In electrical engineering, ground or earth is the reference point in an electrical circuit from which voltages are measured, a common return path for electric current, or a direct physical connection to the earth.

Called Renogy today amongst my appointments to get the answer & they told me 5/16th on the bolts and 3/8ths on the ring terminals, in case someone wants to know.

Just connect inverter/charger to your solar/house battery and that's it. Add alternator/mppt charger to solar/house battery. You can connect multiple chargers and loads to a single battery.
hey will, I thought I remember reading somewhere you needed a transfer switch as to not charge the batteries with everything at once. Is this not correct? Planning on adding some shore power also and just want to confirm.

Can someone here who has this set-up tell me if they used the GoWise Inverter PS1003 in Will's blueprint, what size the inverter terminals are? (not in manual).

Looks like Renogy has a new release for this subjects product. RBC50D1S-G1 . Wonder what the changes or improvements are.

Yeah that is very strange. I would contact renogy and ask them to send you a new one. That shouldn't happen. I would take a picture with amp meter reading and volt meter reading to prove it. Check all wiring one last time to make sure its wired properly though.
Finally got around to double checking all of my wires and hooking up the negative wire for the IGN (just in case) Also hooked up the BVS wires directly to the battery (again just in case) Everything seems to be hooked up correctly.

Found out one interesting thing. When I flipped the circuit breaker between the charger and the battery, it seemed to trick the charger into thinking that the battery was dead (red battery indicator light) and Voila the charge light comes on!! But it soon seems to clear out and turn back off showing a green battery indicator light once again and again the alternator light returns to off. I have attached a link to the video I made showing these issues. Another interesting thing you can see at the very end of the video is that the battery indicator light is solid green but flashes red for a quick second. Manual says to check physical connections and circuit breakers, but I have done this many times already.

I have yet to hear back from Renogy tech support whom I emailed 12/29/19. Starting to lose faith in this company. I wish AustralianDirect.com.au had a North American supplier!

Hi
If you need anything from Au you can always get someone to forward it onto you. I just checked and shipping a 1.5kg parcel from Brisbane to Portsmouth is AU$49 - so about US$35 - so not prohibitive.

Yep. gave that info above and the link to e-trailer to purchase one. Have you any experience with this item?
No experience, but it's quite a bit less $$ than the Redarc 50 amp unit. I also like the fact that the unit has bare terminals whereas the Redarc has pigtails. IMHO, the bare terminals provide more flexibility for installation.

The Renogy charger is cheaper. It also is physically bigger. The RedArc pigtails allow for a butt spliced sealed termination. Very clean and compact. No nuts to loosen up with vibration. No exposed termination points. No Maintenance required. Ideal for the 4Wheele drive community towing smaller camping trailers over rough terrain or just placed in the back of a 4Wheel vehicle with a second deep cycle battery to run the fridge and aux loads. The RedArc is rated for 9-32 v dc input, both solar and alternator input. The Renogy is rated Max Pv voltage 25v, conv. alt voltage 13.2-16v, smart alt 12-16v.
