JK 4S 200A BMS

So can his Assumption leading to erroneous Conclusions, I stopped watching his stuff quite a while ago.

In Any Case... I am IN COMBAT with the Freaking APP... Only the OLD ENJ Software "enjpower-bms-3.7.4.88" will install but NOTHING from that Polar Air site "https://www.pgyer.com/Cfq3" which is where the QR Scanned code takes you and is Recommended by Hankzor on their Store Site.

Nami says it should work with my version of Droid BUT it does not regardless of what I do and YES I have allowed it in Security etc.
Bottom Line, IF I am forced to buy another Damned Cell Phone because of this SINGLE APP (I only use Voice & Text, plus this ONE BT App) as I am NOT a Cell Phone Freaktoid. I was intending to do a write-up as of some quirks, foibles & tricks BUT that may not be Good for JK given this tripe.

To think I dumped $3500 worth of BMS', Solid State Contactors for THESE to replace all of my BMS... It is Bad JuJu !
Getting a Canadian Hopping Mad takes a LOT effort and I am Getting There.
I am hoping that I will not have any problems with the app. I did have problems at first getting it to down load due to security issues but one of the other group members walked me through the process and then it loaded. Good luck.

It seems like the Android version is not as reliable as the iOS version. I've not had any issues with iOS version.

Edit: Remembered one issue is that app does not release bluetooth connection when you leave the app so the LED on the BMS stays on indicating a client is still connected.

@upnorthandpersonal helped me out previously but only the OLD ENJ app would run. Nothing newer will install.
Phone os info below.o: Yes it is older but does what I need. Have zero intention to replace it as it will be trash next year after I pass away (terminal cancer and I am near the end so 12-18 months left IF I am lucky).

The Phone is an LG K4
Android 5.1.1
Kernel Version 3.10.49

The ENJ App releases BT, not been an issue.
BTW: We own Apple Stock but nothing made/sold by them EVER ! Do NOT even suggest it.

I've had it running on a older Android 5 as well in the past. Let me see if I can find that device and try again.
I've never had an issue getting the app to work, even on older tablets (TAB3 7 Essential, also Android 5), so I'm a bit confused what the issue could be...

I appreciate that a LOT as @Nami is figuring things out on their side.
I even tried to ZIP the APK and tried to install it that way - no Joy ! not surprised but had to try.
As I use Prepaid and refuse to "rent or make payments on a phone" I'm heading out to see about a Moto-G which are available from my Cell Provider. I am now officially in a "Pissed Off" state and do not want that to go further. So nice to have to drive for the next 3 Hours just to deal with this. Remember, Rural & Remote... LOL.

Craigslist would be good way for tables or smart phones. This is where I look for dummy devices that will have one single function, connecting to the bms. Waiting money on new device is not something i would want if you are going to use it without sim card.

Any app that is not officially supported by Google play store needs security permission enabled to install. Bluetooth version and some research on Bluetooth connection issues with some models could save you good time and frustration. Not all Android devices are made equally. Some have solid Bluetooth some have nightmare experience with Bluetooth pairing. If buying used stick with Samsung and stay away from anything that doesn't have Qualcomm chip.

First thing - I'm terribly sorry to hear of your terminal illness, and I wish you the very best of luck in whatever time you have left.

Here's my SWAG about the newer App versions: If the BMS communication protocol could be compatible, it might still be failing because The newer JK Apps possibly contains function references ('syscalls') into the Android API which were added (or modified) within later versions of Android.

Most Andoid Apps advertise the minimum version on which they can be run, but if that APK installer limitation is not present (or is mis-stated) then the APK can be installed, but will "hang" or generate an error when the programming issues a syscall which isn't actually supported in your Android phone software. If the App hangs in the phone, BT on the BMS may become hung in a "connected" state as well.

(I did not attempt installation to any older phone, having none as "old" as yours in my possession anymore.)

Somewhat Related: I have verified that my App Installation (V4.6.5 on Android 12, Pixel-3-XL) does release the Bluetooth Connection when the App is terminated. It does that immediately, without no need to "disable" either BT or Location on the phone/tablet. The BMS indicator light goes back to blinking "enabled but not currently connected" status, even if the phone is left in range with both BT and Location "enabled".

As a new test, I just activated the App and then SHUT DOWN THE PHONE (while the App was still running). The App received the system signal to terminate immediately, and processed it correctly - clearly resulting in an orderly shutdown (including BT disconnect), as if I had terminated the App via my own "swipe".

The LG Steve has is based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 MSM8909 and integrates Bluetooth.
Just make sure you don't get something else besides Snapdragon...LG do make devices also from Taiwan chip maker this ones are nightmare with Bluetooth chips.

Samsung Galaxy A32 5G is also not Snapdragon chip.
Just example.
Make sure you ask this questions.
I have not looked for and waisted money on not good device from Samsung and they used MediaTek chip.

Biggest issues is not only MediaTek chip but some apps are just not complied for this chip manufacturer properly and you could have app and Bluetooth issues.

Dang, all of my phones are Galaxy A32 5G. Does that mean that I will have problems with getting the app to work? I initially did have problems getting the app to download past the security but upnorth helped me get past that and it is now installed and opens. I have not yet received the BMS so have not tried to connect to a device.

You should be fine...

It is hard to say i have not tested any aftermarket solutions. I do have hard time with one of my customers making it work with JK modular BMS 600A. What i know that my customer told me that after last Android software update he is capable to run app and connect with out issues.
Craigslist is the best solution for phone or tablet to use as Bluetooth devices.

It is possible but you will have to mimic cells for all bms leads and use benchtop power supply to act as battery voltage acting as battery terminals. You can use some cheap battery cells for testing anything that is within specifications of bms to read.

We need APK file posted on this forum and have someone to regularly replace when there is update. Downloading APK is straight forward and easy to install.

Anyone have suggestions for base settings for the JK 4s?

You can't power up the BMS without cells assembled into a battery pack.
Depending on whether your battery packs will be 4S or 8S, singletons or pairs of these "motorcycle seat" heater pads have been tested to run without issues: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B084YXXM2P/. The default charging versus heating temperature parameters of the BMS, when set to LiFePO4 batteyr type, are much too low, and need to be raised to values above zero.

I'll try to keep it up to date. I've also added it to resources.
Thanks! new V4.7.1 seems to eliminate a former "2.999 V maximum" limitation on the value for "Cell Undervolt Protection", where I wanted to have a value slightly above 3.00 Volts. I have set Cell UPVR to 3.060 V (which was already set with no problem using my former APK V4.6.5) , and I just raised Cell UPVR to the formerly illegal value of 3.040 Volts.

'MOS OTP' remains a non-settable parameter, with fixed value 100.0 degrees.

They may have done something about too-low "default" charging temperatures when cell type LiFePO4 has been designated, but I have no time (right now) to execute that reset and see if it rests to new defaults.

I have 4.6.5 loaded but see that they now have 4.7.1. What is the difference between them and should I upgrade? Still waiting for delivery of my BMS.
