24V 8S BMS with Bluetooth

Following hoping to find a bms with bluetooth and iPhone app, only 100Ah. Would be great to have adjustable temp cutoffs...

I'm a while behind you & considering a chargery for my 280ah 24v 8s bank... Would you mind sharing what it cost you?

Hi- I’m building the very same bank. Which Amp rating of this BMS will I need? Thanks!!

Sure @sharpey, I paid 90usd for a BMS8T-300. The shunt is included, but the relays are not. 200A is 49usd 400A is 62 usd.
Thank you Alexander. Do you know if there's an iPhone bluetooth app that's worth a darn for the one you got? Also, if my continuous draw is less than 60 a, but there's an occasional spike (starting engine) to say 250-300 amps, is a relay still needed?

Hi @Fish Freak . I am definitely not an expert on this. I just canceled my Chargery-order for several reasons. It's very expensive, the relays are very expensive, but the most important thing is that the relays draw about 36Wh. That means the relays alone draw 0,8Kw pr. 24 hours. In addition, comes the draw from the inverter as well and the total consumption for my 4,8Kw battery is for my taste too high. So I'm probably going for a Daly BMS that doesn't need two relays. I have seen Wills reviews and of its failure to do low-temp cut off and I do live in a country with cold winters (Norway). But I will manage the temperature myself and heat my cabin for 24 hours before I charge the batteries. I'm also thinking about using a heat pad under the battery bank under very cold conditions.

To your question about the relays I would ask @Steve_S. But without the relays, you will have no charge/discharge protection I would guess.

I'm sure I can manage my cold charging too, no problem, so low temp cutoff isn't near as important to me as the ability to handle series wiring of two or three 12v cells and an occasional burst of higher amps, probably less than 300. I see drop-in 12v lead acid replacement LifePO4 batteries with this capability, and Will has cut them open and they do not have any relays inside of them. Thank you for the good word @AlexanderKristiansen !

Now if we could just get Will to cut open a IONIC brand 100Ah lithium so we can see what cells and bms are in there - that battery does series 24v and 36v no prob, and guys are starting their engines with the 125Ah battery. Sorry for the hijack...

Just FYI Everybody the Chargery BMS does not need expensive relays or relays at all for that matter depending on your equipment.

There are many ways to use a Chargery.

  • 2 Chargery relays 1 charge relay, 1 discharge relay.
  • No relays (this is how I use it) Charge relay output hooks directly to my Midnite Classic SCC If stop charging conditions are met the relay tells Midnite Classic to shut off. Discharge relay hooks directly to my Samlex EVO inverter and if stop discharge conditions are met Chargery tells inverter to stop inverting. A low draw SSR can easily be used for DC loads other than the inverter if that is a requirement. I do not do this because my DC loads are so minimal.
  • Hybrid Small SSR attached to the inverters switch or remote switch that shuts off inverter for LVD. SSR attached to PV array to stop PV input if OVD is needed.
But the real issue here is the Chargeries do not have bluetooth control that is why I did not recommend one in this thread.

Lastly If anybody needs a Chargery without the relays I have some stashed here in the US for basically the same price as you can get Shipped from Jason at Chargery.

I not selling these to make a living I just wanted to have stock on some here in the USA for forum members.

I'm still figuring all this out myself.... Bought the batteries to kind of force myself to get started converting my 12v system to 24v ... Don't tell my wife.

I reckon I'll go with the Daly BMS... I'm going to run a 2000w inverter off this bank, so I think a 200a 8S Daly Common port seems the way to go.

I'll be watching a few more videos on it before I pull the trigger.

It seems to me that many people just do not understand hat there are many types of BMS' out there with different features, functions, capabilities & complexities. There are also HUGE differences between them all, there is no single or "couple" of choices to pick from.

Li-Ion BMS options
A comparison of commercially available Li-Ion BMSs

Take a look at TinyBMS which has all the goodies, is premium capable and another completely different animal that would work well... I was tossed up between this and the Chargery, went with charger but it was close.

I plan on the same inverter size. I will be following along with your build! Thanks for the reply.

You might well get there before me... My project is stuck in a boat yard in Malaysia... I can't get to it until the "situation" improves!

Is that what's happening for everywhere now or just Malaysia? Are they shipping from China to US now to, anyone know?
